Google's Calendar system allows you to receive calendar events via sms, and there is also a setting to allow for auto-accepting of new Calendar events...:)

An SME may not like the idea that GMail is scanned to provide adverts on relevant topics. I know there was a large uproar about that when they first released it. Don't know if only applies to the webmail version or if they still do it.

Not off-topic. This is the essence of my question.

1) Would a SME use a GMail service?

2) Will GMail be happy to provide services to a commercial entity?

I.e. is there a gap for a similar service?

This is basically aimed at SME's I think, use it on a couple of personal domains, considering using it on a company one myself actually.

I think the gap could come in if you were to leverage your position as the network/ISP and offer a similar solution but with Blackberry-style tariffs that are fixed and include all email transfer bandwidth and perhaps aimed at a less technical audience that don't know how to edit MX records etc.
 
One thing that Google isn't yet providing is the DNS management side of things, I use ZoneEdit.com for DNS, IMO Vodacom would score points by complementing Google's domain hosting, by perhaps providing free local DNS & DynDNS hosting for SMMEs & individual customers...

SME's are happy to use about any service that makes life easier. Gmail does allow one to send mail from one's own (main) address.

Google does not ask to whom they provide the service.

People tend to be unsure if they should use an offshore service for their local business.

The last issue is the market gap available. Combine it with a phone preconfigured to use the VC system (Not Vfone branded!), and it could work.

But a reliability similar to the website will kill it in no time.

It has to be cost competitive in the medium term - and freebie is hard to beat.

Also using Zoneedit, think they would do well to offer a complete solution, maybe including domain registration, for x per month and basically manage it for people that wouldn't be able to do it all themselves.
 
How about replacing the web-mail interface? Many emails I try to read just show up as blank (although Outlook and Evolution display them correctly), or without text wrapping.

The main issue for me is the login step I posted about earlier, apart from that v4me works reasonably well in Fx :).
 
I haven't been able to access my usage stats for over a month now. If there's only one thing I'd like to see get fixed, it's that.
