Im going in January to get contacts again, the last time I tried them (about 3 years ago) they were quite bad for my condition and it was either hard lenses or horrible thick toric lenses.

I wear Johnson & Johnsons...
Monthlies, but I wear them for 6-7 weeks (hasn't caused any problems and same case with other people I asked advice from).
I get them from my optometrist - they are fancy custom prescription stuff.
R950 for 6 months' supply -> R950 for 9 months.

Nope, it shouldn't. Mine would only do that if I dived into the ocean, for example.

Another possibility is putting it in upside down. That tends to result in it feeling a little "scratchy" and moving when you blink.

Finally, wrong lens size and shape could be an issue. Are they the ones your optometrist recommended?

They are the recommended ones. But only my first trial pair, and I think I'm a little nervous as well!

The only time the lense shifts in my eye is when i touch or rub my eye.

The plus point of me having contact lenses is i no longer get dirt into my eye since i hate having to reposition the contact lense, so i never touch my eye.
