Okay so below is the exact problem i am having it just doesn't give a conclusive possible problem on the site.

Anyone got an idea how i can fix this, and no i don't have the moola for a new mb...

I got a intel 775. and the cpu is running VERY hot too for some or other reason.

Hello

I would like to know if anyone has experienced the following problem. When I switch my PC on, a continuous beeping sound comes from the PC speaker. I can hear the power supply fan and CPU fan spinning. The hard drive light is on (no flashing) and the CD ROM power lights usually light up on boot up, but they do not in this case.

I reseated all memory, PCI cards and checked cables to make sure everything is seated properly, but the beeping sound is still there after I switch the power on.

I also pulled out all memory, PCI cards and cables, but I left the CPU and power supply plugged. Again the same continuous beeping sound from the PC speaker. I cleaned any dust from the devices I pulled out.

What is strange is that if I leave the PC switched on(with the continuous beeping) for a few minutes, the PC will eventually boot up with all devices working as they should be. No beeping sound.

The continuous beeping is irritating and it is a pain to wait for the PC to boot up, so any help would be much appreciated. Thank you. I am running Windows 98SE on a P3-450 with 256MB RAM.

Regards
Barry

Try clearing the cmos. I.e. Unplug the pc from the power outlet, Remove the battery on the mobo for like 5 minutes.

intels website states that if you get 10 beeps it's a mobo problem and you have to swap it. 11 beeps indicate cache memory as being bad, in which case you would need to swap the cpu/mobo one of the two

Probably the bios warning you that the CPU is too hot. I would get the heat problem seen to ASAP. Maybe one of the push down HSF clips isn't latched properly.

i took off the latch and put it back still the same thing... and the beeping starts once the pc starts then eventually it decides to post...

the temp at post is 60 and the threshold is 80 i even took off the threshold and i get the same thing.

It only tends to beep like that when cold though which is quite strange.

That is weird, boot up and do a BIOS update. 60 at post is way too high as well.

have you unplugged everything not necessary, and I mean kb/mouse/all usb devices?

I had the same problem after being struck by lightning.pc still works perfectly except for that annoying beeeeppp,so i unplugged the pc speaker and so far OK..

have unplugged everything and you should note that the beep is only before post and not after,

another thing is my pc was running at 45-55 at one stage and peaking at 60 which was fine for me, since it wouldn't hinder the performance of capturing video but once it reaches 65 the cpu tends to allow fewer load so it can cool down, so it drops frames like mad.

Seems it might be the recent power outages we have been having.

bios is flashed to newest bios too...

Hmmm, a couple of my boards have beeped as they do a system test before post.

but the thing that is irritating with this beep is it takes about a minute before it stops. then the cpu is running at 60, and on warmer days it takes shorter than colder days. which is kinda scary.

I would prefer not to spend money on my pc RIGHT now but seeing as it is busy going i guess i'll have to

okay so this morning i double checked that the beep is not being caused by my peripherals and its not.

The board is a Gigabyte 8i915G MF and the CPU is a standard Pentium 4 CPU 3.00Ghz

Have you tried running everything on a test bed? i.e. Take the mobo, cpu, hdd, ram, psu, gpu (if needed) out of the case and put everything on a piece of cardboard and try running it. Maybe the board is shorting on the case

nope haven't tried that will have to do it the weekend or next week. what bugs me though is the colder it is the longer it takes to turn on.
