well we stuffed now. we now in the following situation.

1 govt owns 37 odd % of telkom so the prices aint ever coming down
2 govt owns icasa now

so govt can propose a price hike and then guess what. govt can approve the price hike. hehehehe nice setup.

Lobbying by industry and opposition parties eventually led to the clause being removed. The bill is still drawing criticism, however. “The dismissal process is unconstitutional, the appointment process is just a mess,” says Democratic Alliance MP Dene Smuts

Smuts criticises the role played by the NCOP’s communications committee, saying it “ignored, or is unaware, that the constitutional court has said that independence means independence from government”.

“Regulators like Icasa were created to be, and to be seen to be, outside of government [control],” she says.

Poor Dene Smuts is fighting a losing battle it seems.

I am afriad until someone challenges this in the Constitutional Court we are wasting our time. The situation is really hopeless and if Mbeki signs this new clause into law we will know his and his parties true intentions as far as reforming the Telecoms Market.

Having the ANC in direct control of Icasa not necessarily a bad thing.
Icasa as Telkom's pet poodle main function is to confiscate private telecoms
networks. Pres Mbeki with his municipal hubs want's to stop this.

Not sure if this is good or bad.
Definately bad if Ivy is deciding who is in charge.. Just imagine, she can afford telecoms cost so she'll appoint someone who has similar views.(she does pay for it..)
