I stumbled on the following on the Vodacom website - no costs were mentioned so I assume it is a free service:

The introduction of phones with cameras, colour screens and the ability to
surf the internet has resulted in children having access to adult material
that may be inappropriate for them. Vodacom, as socially responsible company,
aims to ensure that there is responsible consumption of mobile content
services. Vodacom has therefore adopted processes and procedures to ensure
that children are protected from accessing unsuitable content from their
mobile phones by implementing barring mechanisms that block access to adult
content. Vodacom will also offer parents the opportunity to block access to
adult content on their children's phones.

To block your number from viewing adult content you need to dial *111*123#
from the mobile number you wish to block and follow the prompts . To unblock
you need to present your ID/passport to your Service Provider to prove you
are over 18 years old.

Im just wondering, what do phones with cameras have to do with adult content? Are they going to check all the pics that are sent via MMS's to see that they dont contain adult content?

The adult content management is related to content that will be available via the VLive portal, including pics, videos, etc.

Vodacom does not scan any SMS's or MMS's sent from one subscriber to another.

The systems works very similar to the DSTV one, i.e. you can select age restrictions on content or block it completely.

So now u just download it from ure computer and put it on ure phones memory stick :)

Then u can sell it to the kids at school, sending through bluetooth, i see a business opportunity.

Heyyyy, you know Bubba????:D

On a serious note. I recall some time ago when there was/was going to be software that could determine, by guessing the ratio of skin colour to other colours, whether a pic was pron or not. Anyone remember this?

read that somewhere too,a while back.anyways (imo)the reality is that try as we may to implement restrictions teenagers will get content!fact!the onus is upon parents to sort out their sorded kids

It's been in use for some time..

Have a look at Naomi - a free content filter... works pretty well:

Now the phone SPs should be looking at developing this further for subscribers who want to protect their kids.
