Hi...

Are there any software out there that can convert protected WMA files to MP3...? I have moved alot of my WMA files to a new PC, and for some of you maybe wondering, no illegal activities of the moving of the music...

All WMA files was protected when ripped to the PC, and want to download licenses from Microsoft. So now I want to convert them to MP3 so that I can also play the music using my USB in my car, as the radio cannot play WMA...

Thanx...

You need to get hold of the encryption certificates on the PC that ripped/encrypted it. If you have those, then the protection can be reversed.

If you can't get hold of the certificates, then you pretty much out of luck cause breaking the encryption without them is near impossible.

GF has a pile of CD's ripped to WMA on her PC.

What is the best way to convert them to MP3?

Googling presents an overburden of suggestions, and I don't like the idea of testing many packages before getting the optimum solution. :(

(NB: No pirating - just making them media friendly! She owns all the CD's!)

try allok converter its a demo but it may work. i use it for converting music videos as the demo allows for 5 mins of conversion which is perfect for my music videos. the program has plenty different formats on it.

Win XP Media Centre has a WMA - MP3 convertor built in... But only works on WMCE, not XP...

It does? Never seen it on mine... (got it with my lappy a while back)

I had the exact same problem with a whole lot of songs on my pc.

I downloaded a very good program and it works easy enough.

It is only valid for 30 days......... so start converting and get the job done.

Here is a link

I dont know if you know....... but if you gonna rip cd's again onto your pc by using Window Media Player, then just change the default settings so that it decodes it into .mp3 and not .wma files.

Then you can transfer the songs to any other device without having protection copywrite issues.

Hope it helps.....

I copied it to "test" on my other PC but never got around to it until a month or two ago. Still have my sealed Win MCE CD tho, so I can just reinstall it...

I got those crappy excuses for dvd's..."recovery disks".... so I can't just do an install with it, it has to format my whole drive, create recovery and other useless partitions.... so dual booting as an example, is impossible (with this, I mean. Hence me only using Linux)

You can get TuneClone Audio Converter to help you convert wma to mp3. works like a champ.

If you can install WMP 11 it will convert wma to mp3. It will test for wga.

If you do not have have format Factory on your pc, you have not worked with audio or video files i.m.o. It is absolutely free and can convert so many formats.
