Convert Protected WMA to MP3

If anyone's interested there is of course a quick-and-dirty way to convert protected audio files, that not many people are aware of.

* Take a standard audio cable with a standard stereo jack at each end.
* Run it from your computer's headphone jack to the line (or microphone) input jack.
* Fire up any good audio recording software (Audacity is one of the best, and free)
* Play the media file with your standard playback program, recording it with your audio recording software while playing. Simple! And no quality loss in this digital age.

This obviously only works if you are playing the track 'legally' on a machine where Windows Media Player (or other playback software) accepts your right to play it. But it gets rid of that troublesome DRM forever.

Ummmm -- yup, dunce's cap for me!

But look on the bright side, this way you can use an equalizer to pre-adjust the balance and tone or make up for any original deficiencies. On one laptop I have where new W7 drivers were never released for the sound card, it's the only method that works, and honestly I can't tell the difference between the original audio source and the re-recorded one. Unless I've got cloth ears.....
