Cookie problem?

Okay so I'm trying to get phpbb3 to work... I installed everything on localhost and it all works fine, but when I uploaded it to my server it has issues. I can log onto the admin panel, but every 2 page clicks or so it asks me to re-authenticate. Sometimes I have to authenticate 3 or 4 times before it lets me back into the admin, only to go back to telling me to authenticate after clicking on another link.

Lots of people seem to have experienced this, and yet no one could adequately explain a solution - though they all seem to say it's a cookie problem. I'm installing the forum on a subdomain, would that have any affect on the settings for the cookies (I've never played with cookies before so am pretty clueless)? I changed the domain in the cookie settings to .domain.com instead of .subdomain.domain.com which was the default this morning and it was actually working - but now I try again this afternoon and I can't even logon to the website with my username, let alone log into the admin panel.

Can anyone shed some light on the situation!? Please! (I would post this on the phpbb forum but after not being able to read 10 of their obscure registration codes correctly, I gave up)

Thanks;)

Definately not a cookie issue. Read the Installation Instructions again, maybe you missed something?

Did you clear your cookies after you changed the domain? If not try clearing your session cookies. If you are using firefox, the web developer toolbar extension has a cookies menu.

Remember , when you upload the file attributes must be 777 or 775.

And what hosting company you use?

switched to SMF with no problems, phpbb gets a thumbs-down from me. thanks to everyone who replied though:)

Agreed, SMF rocks....

Cheers.. Provide link when finish need ideas
