ja i get that but its still alot of money. and that interest free thing must be a gimmick. built into the price somehow. but it makes the wife happy so i wont argue. im learning to choose my battles a bit better.

You'll need a total spray from a tanning salon when she shows you those invoices because white as a sheet is not healthy.

cash is normally a discount of 10% i think

which is not alot

and i suggest your wife think about a big set one time

i had about 10k at one stage ready for the pots ...since for that price i would have got a very nice set and an extra gift pot worth about 3k alone

the SO bought pots which were already in that set and couldnt change it

so ask the wife what she wants and look at single costs compare to the whole set which most of the times have nice gifts and they cheaper

you misunderstand me. she organised a demo at school. she then proceeded to already order the pots. showing me the invoice is purely for info purposes. the horse has bolted.

So with all this chit chat i checked the cupboards thinking get new pots and pans - to discover a large amc frying pan and pot with lids lurking in the back.
Undetered, next stop was amc website.
Lord, at over R2000 a pan ??

AMC pots are always the best. But they cost around 1.5k each. They have lifetime warranty though.

We bought our AMC pots in 1973. about 10 years ago we had them re-polished and put on new handles, and they look as good as new. both my son and daughter also have AMC sets. If you buy AMC you will never need to replace them.

+1.

I've got AMC and LeCreuset at home. Nothing else.
Some of my AMC pots are over 20 years old, if not 30, and still in a perfect condition.
The LeCreuset pots and pans are very expensive but worth every cent in the long run.

+2 . Have AMC equally as old, and a couple of LeCreuset. The latter can be used without hesitation in the oven as well, makes amazing casseroles etc. just watch the heat rating on the handle and knob :), think its something like 230 degrees max. Both pots/ pans, well worth the extra spend, and will last a lifetime, literally.

I love the oven-capability of the LeCrueset pots. I was taught though not to max out the stove on them, as they get very hot.
The AMC lids are also useful for heating up plates in the oven, the lid-knobs are pretty heat-resistant.

For the same price as AMC you can probably buy Le Crueset.

While I respect the longetivity of AMC cookware, they have had to make several upgrades in recent years to accommodate modern cooking methods according to their FAQ.

Also They Don't work on induction cookers as Blun pointed out http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/435389-Induction-Cooker?p=8315869&viewfull=1#post8315869 It's not that they are steel, surgical stainless steel (steel works)but they have an Aluminium core at the bottom of their pots which is their whole concept of cooking and this core is wrapped by steel so Aluminum doesn't ever come into contact with food. It's just there to provide their heat distribution- high heat at lower temps which is AMC's way of cooking. Aluminium doesn't work with induction- its not ferromagnetic. They'll have to design a whole new range to accommodate induction cooker tops/ Stove tops.

Induction stoves, I believe are the future. I saw a camping version the other day for R300 and a two plate for under R500. So add in Space saving, burn safety, they are quite appealing.

It's still quite a new concept along with the halogen oven.
