Cool Ideas fighting off a massive DDoS attack

Cool Ideas sent me a msg stating that they are dealing with international traffic issues. Seems pretty OK my side.

Why do DDoS attacks keep happening? What's the cause or reason?

This is why the separation of ISP from last-mile provider is still so important. Sure, maybe a DDoS could happen to any ISP, but some ISPs seem to attract them more than others.

Annoying being on Cool Ideas using Frogfoot and lacking the Openserve ability to just put in another ISPs PPPoE details and switch instantly.

Again? You'd think after the first two they would put measures in place, now they just look incompetent.

Seems like web africa is also being hit again, I can't connect to any gaming servers.

Looks like Liquid telecoms is next in line because Afrihost, Webafrica and Axxess went down. :(

This day has been utterly miserable for the internet. Rooting for CISP to overcome this thing. Go lads & lasses! :D

So even though this keeps on happing no previsions have been made by any of these guys? Just deal with it when they're back in the office

The 1st wave this morning was already double the size of the attack 8 weeks ago.
The attackers have been escalating and shifting the attack all day, to make it harder to mitigate; has been a cat and mouse between CISP mitigation and attackers all day.
CISP was just the opening shots, it is game time now for the rest, they are coming to eat everybody's lunch now.

I know its probably worthless, but is there some sort of National government Cyber body that tries to co-ordinate and defend against attacks like this or are ISPs just left to their own devices?

I mean, these attackers are basically bringing SA's internet infrastructure to its knees.

Government? Looks for a Judge Judy saying "Reeeeeeeediculous!" (net fails from Axxess)

ISPs are pretty much on their own. Was chatting to one 2 days ago. I hope the local industry comes up with an answer, else we might see govt blueplans in 20 yrs time :(

Have you experienced this government having any of the following qualities? Technical vision, long or short term planning, proper budgeting, cohesion between departments, effective equipment purchasing and maintenance, aptitude or even basic brain power.... No right? So there you have it.

Instead of being an ass, maybe just answer the question? Discussions tend to be a lot better that way.
