Has anybody had experience with Cool Ideas on VUMA and there FUP.
What I'm asking really is do they implement "Throttling" "Shaping" "SoftCap" etc
If so at what level of usage

I have same question... and also... has anyone compared the FUPs of the different fibre providers vs ADSL providers?? (also include Greencom)

Will probably be allowed to download like 100gb a month or so. They'll probably shape P2P instantly.

With the new pricing on Vumtel's portal _no_ other offers from any ISP makes sense in light of Cool Ideas' pricing. Barring crap service or speeds from CISP, that is.

It is a bit disconcerting that nobody gives them any competition. Are their prices too good to be true?

Also I see the've discontinued their 100/100Mbit package. Only symmetric package is 50/50.

Hi, i'm also looking for reviews from current users of Cool Ideas ISP's overall service, up-time, connectivitiy.

double bump.

There is nothing on Vumatel's portal competing with them speedwise/capwise/pricewise. (Maybe on the lower end the Vox 4Mbit uncapped wins out.)

Since all their services are month-to-month it makes sense to sign up and test. I'm due to sign up with them this coming week. I'll report back.

From a Greencom perspective all our services are uncapped and not throttled in any way. We have users on the network that have run between 800Gig to over a Terrabyte in a month , the purpose of the FUP is more to control abuse with illegal activity.

Sounds good. Does Greencom work with Vumatel? What will total installation fees be?

Just started using their service this week.
Migrated from a 6/1 Mweb Uncapped ADSL service to a Cool Ideas 20/20 Uncapped service.

So far so good, they had the only uncapped service available which is what I was after. We talked to MWeb and Vuma about possibly migrating our ADSL account to a Vuma account and they both indicated that it wasn't really possible. A new connection through the Vuma web portal would need to be created.

The 6/1 MWeb connection had been servicing us fine, but the second we could get off Telkom's ADSL service we took it.

I have been able to watch youtube at 4K resolution without buffering. Haven't fully tested torrent effects on the connection, but I can say that I do feel there is shaping taking place. Right now I have not really been pushing the connection so I cannot say how bad it is, but it feels like it is there.

They do not have a FUP at this point. Nothing is throttled. They have had users doing over 1tb a month and nothing was applied.

Hi All, firstly sorry for the lack of presence on the forum, we technically have an AUP but we don't disclose what "abuse" is described as, quite simply with all uncapped services with this kind of capacity and this small a margin there are risks involved and one needs to cover ones self for those situations (you can imagine someone in a flat signing up for 100Mbps and then distributing it to 4 fellow neighbors) this would make the solution unfeasible.

Basically we don't want to limit users to the amount of data they use so long as they are using it in their personal capacity, and on that note we don't shape anything either.

We have users on 20Mbps packages doing well over the 700GB mark monthly for example, we have yet to throttle any service since day 1 of offering.

Thanks for the feedback and welcome to the forums.
Will be signing up with you from Friday - cannot wait for fibre

I've been a user since November, and it is absolutely fantastic. No other ISP was even close price-wise.

Hi guys,

PBCool, or any CISP users - what is the latency like on CISP Fibre offering to EU?

I'm currently on VDSL, with Web Africa (IS Backbone), specifically for the lowest possible latencies from JHB to EU. I'm moving in April to a house with Vuma Fibre and plan on joining the CISP party! I'm curious what the international performance is like though as VDSL is still an option there. Would you be able to let us know where your backhaul bandwidth comes from? MTN/SAIX/IS/Vox/Your own??

Edit: 3WA, a speedtest result to london one evening during the week would be revealing if you get a chance!

Hi Rivin, with regards to international capacity every provider (MTN/SAIX/IS/Vox/ etc) will buy capacity on one or more of the undersea cables and then link up with international carriers and ISPs.
Currently the undersea cable with the lowest latency to UK and the EU is WACS, which is just slightly lower than the other cables as the west path around the continent is slightly shorter than the east path.

Do you have a server in mind than I can post latency results?

Sure here you go:
