^^^ Vodafone London on my 50/50 connection with CISP on a wired connection from my desktop. The ping latency stays dead constant and is about as good you can expect to Europe.

Sigh if only Vumatel can expand faster I'd gladly pay for a 50/50 line :(

@PBCool I have had a question on the Blarigowrie Facebook Page regarding fax machines, and if it will work over fibre. Could you please help answer?

"What if you still have customers who send faxes and what happens if you have old folks that still need to make long drawn out calls to other people. Cell phone to expensive"

Also, if there are any admins out there, could you please make this thread sticky

So there is no simple way to use an old fax machine over the fibre, I am not actually sure if it's possible to use an analogue VOIP gateway for this.

There are fax to email and email to fax services, the former being a free service the latter not. (Free to receive but you pay per send)

With regards to calls to cellphones the rate to call over VOIP is 60c/min, and 26c/min for national. Cheaper than Telkom and you can call for as long as you want.

I have been using Cool Ideas 20/20 for 4 months now. I am super happy.

No throttling or shaping.

p2p works 100%

Do understand though that it is a 20 meg line to their local distribution. Don't expect 20/20 when doing a speed test to the states.

That said youtube etc all loads effortlessly.

You will get 20Mbps to certain servers in the UK, remember the higher the latency the lower the possible throughput on your basic speedtest. if you use iperf as the previous post suggests you should get your full line speed.
 
Are things still well with Cool Ideas?
We finally have fibre in our complex and I need to choose a provider.

With international speeds not even coming close to 50mb, is there any reason to go 100mb?

Yes.

And yes, go 100mb, 50% of max attainable line speed on 100mb is twice as quick as max attainable line speed on a 50mb line so DO IT!

Also, I would like 'international speeds' clearly defined. Random speed tests to international servers is nowhere near my real world experience.

Most of the time I get 100Mbps to seedbox in Netherlands. I've been wondering are you going doing p2p updloads/seeding and what is the policy of this from Cool Ideas?
