COPE = Epic fail?

Tmoose they have always had the WC due to the coloured population, they need to as chis says change their strategy as it is not working for them because the WC is expected not something they strategically planned.

Airwolf your missing the point, they need new votes not the same old WC voters that is the point being made about the WC.

In which universe? ANC ruled the WC with the 46% they got in the last election. DA had a meagre 26% All they had was the City of Cape Town. This will be the first time since 1999 that a province is not controlled by the ANC, and the first time since 1994 that anybody but the ANC rules the WC.

In reality-universe, KZN used to be held by the IFP.

The problem is not with the DA and their manifesto. The problem is that black people in South Africa will have nothing to do with any parties that are not the ANC (or used to be the ANC in the case of COPE). They have been brain washed to think that voting for any other party will mean a return to apartheid. It's not like the DA haven't tried. They are just bashing their heads against a wall. The ANC might not get their two-thirds majority, but the fact of the matter is that the majority of black south africans have whole-heartedly sold their souls to the ANC. And they will stay that way even when the ANC has siezed all the farms and destroyed the economy.

This is not a racist statement ... it is a fact of life in Africa.

They have so far increased their vote in the WC from 26% to more than 52%. Nationally they have increased their vote from 12.37% to over 19%. Obviously these numbers will come down as the counting progresses, but clearly they ARE getting new votes.

Go black or you will never have a say in anything, if COPE and DA merge and it looks like the DA joined COPE then we may see a challenge to the ANC. The DA do not see that in order for them to succeed they need to change their outloook and focus more on the black people of this country. Until they decide to go after the black vote they are screwed.

If the DA had to do that they would defnitely become much bigger. A lot of black people still don't trust the DA and see it as the "white" party.
 
I do not think it's a Fail forever they should just stick around. The people are strange they trust the DA more than Cope, but because Helen is white they stick with ANC. Slowly people will get there. But for now FAIL.

But it's nowhere near enough to topple the ANC which is what their strategy is all about!

It's like entering a competition and winning the consolation prize. That's not a victory! You can't go around saying you won the competition, because you didn't.

the majority of people in south africa are black eg skin colour for the xhosa,zulu,sotho etc.

it is they that determine whether the anc wins. therefore it is that population the DA needs to sway in order to have a hope of achieving greater numbers.

the statement is not about coloureds being more white than black.

True, but I think it's unrealistic to expect a traditionally white party to overthrow an African liberation movement in 5 years. Rather watch for them to take 20%+ of the vote in the next election and then to build again from there in the one after.

For sure but i feel they will only achieve this when they change their campaign. Stop Zuma? Surely they can come up with something better than that.
