I'm looking at the results and I have to say: For a party which is only 4 months old they got a nice share of the votes so far. But what is giving me a great warm feeling inside is the fact that they were so arrogant and said the DA must join them if they want to be successful.

I think COPE should review its strategy and join the DA instead :D

COPE was a major disappointment. I honestly thought they will be in the running for second place with the DA. But there is no contest it seems.

Dude while I'm not a COPE supporter that's a smidge unfair I happen to think they have done pretty well considering

  1. They are relatively new party
  2. The have had very limited resources
  3. 8% of the vote so far is 8 less percentage points for any other party (IMO any party that takes a vote off of the ANC has done well)

tbf i think they had to be bold in their electioneering so people would consider taking them seriously. would you vote for a party that from the onset sets itself out as a minor?

EDIT: essentially i am saying they may have been expecting/hoping to get around 10% of the vote but wanted to be seen to be thinking big.

It's not easy to steal votes from the ANC,Cope stealing 8% is massive.Something the DA havent been able to do.

Don't get me wrong.

Under the obsticles that faced them they did good. But they dissapointed allot of people tbh. The media made a big hype about nothing. COPE will hopefully now see that there is home for them in the DA. Instead of them giving a home to the DA. That is my point. COPE was never contender against the ANC. It was a COPE/DA race from the start, and it's pretty clear who is the winner so far ;)

Fair enough :D

Who really cares who would be giving a home to whom.

A coalition is a meeting of minds on equal footing.

Sorry but the DA are stupid ones, COPE is considered a black party and that is what the DA needs to ever have a chance, as long as they are considered a white party they will always do poorly.

The DA has had many years to transform into a party for blacks and whites but they seem to think being looked at as a white party is the way to go.

Go black or you will never have a say in anything, if COPE and DA merge and it looks like the DA joined COPE then we may see a challenge to the ANC. The DA do not see that in order for them to succeed they need to change their outloook and focus more on the black people of this country. Until they decide to go after the black vote they are screwed.

8% is 8% less that did not vote for the ANC.

It remains to be seen whether COPE stole their votes from the ANC or the DA.

My prediction is COPE will fade away before the next elections.

This much is true.

The majority of DA members are coloured (i.e. not white).

my guess is that will happen if they get less than 10% of the vote

The kissing and making up has already begun..

Check out the business day for a picture of Mantashe and Lekota sharing a hug and laughing up their sleeves at the tools who voted for COPE thinking they would actually be opposition to the ANC

And the DA's slogans included "Stop Zuma", and "Vote to win".

Should the DA also be reviewing its strategy?

:)

Gary white, coloured etc i class as whites. They make up the minority of this country and vote DA, the DA need the black vote, basically gary just to be clear anybody not black i class white and those are the people who vote DA. Without the BLACK vote the DA will never do anything but bitch and moan on the news.

Actually, seeing as the DA is taking the WC from the ANC and increasing its % of the national vote from the last election, I'd say its strategy is probably working for it.

The DA already had the WC. So as far as them acquiring new voters. It's minimal and therefore can be considered to not be as successful as they would have liked.

They've stopped Zuma?

The ANC held the WC (ie. provincial) - DA had the Cape Town metro (ie local).
