Been looking for a decent GPS navigation solution for my HTC Hero running 2.1 (rooted) for some time now as Ndrive wouldn't cut it (kept losing navigation randomly) and lost compatibility with newer android revisions. In this journey I heard of Copilot but have since found it extremely difficult to locate.

All the barcode links I find on various websites (even for the SA version - aaaaand even with marketenabler) lead me to dead/blank market place links. I AM tempted to buy it on their website but would like to know if any people here find it worthwhile and if they had easy success downloading from the website after payment. (I'd hate to pay and then get the same dead link issue)

Also is it possible to download it (and maps - especially the maps) via pc and transfer it to the phone? 500MB-1GB download would do wonders to destroy airtime I can't even imagine having.

I have used both NDrive and Copilot as well as a hardware Garmin Nuvi 215W. I have had occasional navigation issues (jumps to the wrong street) on both Android apps, which I believe is a hardware or firmware issue with my Samsung i9000. On both apps I miss Garmin's display of current speed (since most car speedometers read too high). Copilot uses a tiny font for street names on the map, which I can't read in the car. NDrive has a nice screen format that gives both the current and upcoming street names. Of the phone apps I prefer NDrive, but if late for an appointment, I'd rather go with the more familiar Garmin. I have not yet tried Navigon. Take a look around http://forum.mobilism.org for lots more info around smartphone gps. I expect Garmin to start selling an app now that they have stopped selling smart phones.
