The police service on Sunday said it is concerned about the number of incidents in which tourists have been targeted during the Soccer World Cup.

Officials said many of the incidents could have been avoided if the victims had been more conscious of their security.

An American tourist was shot and wounded during a robbery in Johannesburg last week. There have also been several minor incidents in which foreigners have been robbed or burgled.

The police’s Vish Naidoo said authorities will have to issue more warnings and safety tips to visitors during future events. linky

WTF?

I thought we didn't need to warn visitors about our crime ... they'd all be safe and there was no reason to worry

:D :D :D ... anyways , I thought this was fsking funny ...good laugh to start the week off

so the criminals are not listening to Zuma when he told them to behave? Huge surprise there! :D

Perhaps, just maybe... they think he is a tiny little bit of a hypocrite? ;)

Shows how much command of respect the ANC president has over what he considers to be his own people... not to mention the rest of South Africa.

So it's the tourists' fault they are victims of crime?

Or perhaps... just perhaps... they need to address the core issue instead of taking the "band-aid" approach. "Warnings" don't mean ****, the AIDS pandemic is a testament to that.

So what are the actual figures

So you saying Zuma is the president of the criminals!:erm:

I reckon the crime problem will be way worse in the 2014 WC in Brazil.
Lots of street kids will have to be killed by their police death squads.

I'm as negative as the next guy, but the crime levels during this WC was much lower than I expected.
It's actually scary.

Yes. See here...

Evidence of what the state claimed was a "generally corrupt" relationship between Deputy President Jacob Zuma and Durban businessman Schabir Shaik was overwhelming, Judge Hillary Squires said in the Durban High Court on Wednesday.

The difference is.... that in Jackie Selebi's case he was found guilty... Zuma was never brought to trial.

Yea geez a long time ago i would never have thought that we would barely hear anything crime related during the world cup.

Hopefully things do not go back to normal, maybe zuma can ask the criminals too be good all year round?

how did u jump to that conclusion? have u heard of a concept called streetsmart? u do realize that the crimes refered to are petty crimes which could been avoided by being more conscious and aware about security?? have u spoken to foreigners? i have and they admit their incidents could have been avoided if they were more streetsmart! things like walking in crowded place with a low handbag with magnetic button, being drunk in a club and leaving things around, etc.. have u spoken to police? i have and they confirm that most foreigner crime is petty and could have been avoided by being streetsmart...
