I recently had 2 friends with nokia and sony ericsson who wanted me to help them copying their contacts and sms unto their new phones.
nokia to nokia and ericsson to ericsson.
on the nokia no luck,
on the ericsson software export and import sms.
When you make a backup, then inserting the new phone, you cannot retrieve the old phones info.
On the ericsson I use "my phone explorer" to export the contacts to excel or word and print it.
if feel that their should be a easy way or is their?

I don't recall importing SMS's onto a phone, but Phone Explorer was AWESOME on my SE phone. I vaguely remember copying sms's to/from a sim card once.

It's quite rare that an SMS is important enough to keep though... Contacts are all I really care about.

Loved the fact that my old K800i could sync contacts with Google :) Just wish I found this out sooner...

Er Nokia PC Suite, bakup phone-restore phone.
Will do everything for you!

I also use Nokia PC Suite with no problems, I made a backup from my Nokia N70, sms'es, contacts, photo's and then did a restore when I connected my Nokia E51, just make sure that you can connect the 2 phones with USB cable to pc or Bluetooth to pc

Even easier, almost all the new S60 nokia's these days have a "phone swap / change" facility to do all of that phone to phone directly via bluetooth.

the 2 lady's I helped had 666 and 1022 sms's

nokia 6300 backup, then insert 6303, no luck retrieved the 6300 data.

SE export and import contacts and sms.

no calender joy on both phones.
no birthday reminders.
on my phone I got about 4 sms's that I keep for the record.
I found "my phone explorer" the best for exporting to word/ excel.
