Does anyone know of any distributors (Rectron / Pinnacle etc etc) that are bringing in Core i5 and Core i7 laptops? I would like to get something future proof and importing is such a pain in the ass...

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Rectron *had* them; now I'm sitting here with one of the only Asus JI60DV i7 Laptops available in the country, selling for R16500....

Can one upgrade HP Pavilion dv6920ei Entertainment Notebook PC with Core i5 / Core i7 processors?

Meccer released theirs .. but i've yet to hear of good experiences with meccer products.

Go for a quad core/better else its a waste

I purchased a new dv7t HP Pavilion Laptop Quad i7-720QM from eBay (seller =techurban). Total cost was under R11K (inc VAT) - surprisingly no duties.

Frontosa, Axiz, Rectron and Tarsus are getting I7 stock at the end February, I have a few on backorder at each lol, should be entertaining when they arrive

I have a Mecer i5 works like a bomb faster then my home pc running a q6600 and 8 gigs of ram, plus can run any game atm on my laptop.

Seems like Mecer has a range that just got out, saw in another thread, check out laptopdirect... Comes standard with i3 upgradable to i7...

Hi Oreomitch. I'm very interested in buying a laptop directly from the US but have never bought anything from eBay so am sceptical about the process. I would really appreciate it if you could give me some feedback around how you went about it?

Which website did you use, eBay.com or the eBay International Market site for South Africa? Was it just a simple case of placing the order and specifying a SA delivery address? Any special instructions to the seller? Was it delivered straight to your door? You say you paid VAT - on what amount was VAT charged? How come no duties were charged? Any other pertinent info you can think of that would be useful.

PCZone will have stock of the of some i3 & i5 notebooks in the Asus and Samsung varieties.

Samsung (i3) has DDR3 RAM and a 512MB dedicated GeForce 310M.
The Asus's (i3 & i5) will also have DDR3 RAM but have 1GB dedicated ATI 5470.
All have HD displays and Windows 7.

I can post more info tomorrow or you can check the website.

With regard to Mecer notebooks though, had one a few years ago and never had a problem with it...
