so i'm considering upgrading my cpu (and later on my mobo), as i have a 1.6Ghz dualcore and am looking at Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz

now i have a P4M900T-M (V1.0)

Socket 775 for Intel Core 2 Duo processor
Support latest Intel * Core™2 Quad processor / Core 2 Duo / Pentium D / Pentium 4 / Celeron D processor
Support 1066MHz FSB and DDR2 667
High-quality 6-channel audio brings a more vivid sound experience
Support SATA allows you to join several hard drives and increase data transfer by separating data (RAID 0) or by keeping 100% secure data duplication (RAID 1)

so my question is, will this be possible

Just be sure to check which MB bios versions will support the particular quad you plan to get. Maybe the motherboard already has the latest on loaded. Otherwise you just have to install the latest. Check the manufacturer's website for the list of supported processors for each bios version.

According to the released specifications of your motherboard it will support the Q6600 without any hassles :)

i actually checked that, it has 2 d/l for bios, one dated for 2007 and one for 2008 - the wording on the site says only update if you are experiencing errors.

so must i d/l them?

and also can i just go for the 2008 d/l? the reason for this question is the file size for 2007 is 1.1mb and for 2008 is 0.7mb

don't put salt in an open wound, will just cause more pain...

If the current software supports the Q6600 then leave well alone... rather not start tinkering, fiddling, and end up screwing up your system
