Corolla Cross - Claimed vs actual consumption

Do I just drive really kak or do I need Toyota to check it out?

In town it is heavy AF, I average about between 8.5 and 9.5l/100km in town. On the highway it drops down considerably to around 6.6-7.2l/100km. My lifetime average is standing at 8.1l/100km for my 2022 1.8 Cross.

One thing that I could mention is that it does not like high speeds, it is happiest plodding along at around 115km/h, you will get way better consumption if you drop your speed from 135km/h.
 
It seems we in SA get some of the worst engine and spec configurations for the C-Cross. Just had a look in Aus, on the engine front, they get the 2l versions and on hybrids the more powerful setup as well and some of their interior options look better and they can get a sunroof. The active safety tech is also standard across the range along along with the full complement of air bags. In SA, the Xi and XS variants don’t even have curtain airbags. Boggles the mind why they skimp on that on a mass market family car. Cost of these are hardly the issue (literally a few USD), it’s shameless profiteering and taking advantage of SA’s blind brand loyalty. No wonder the Chinese are taking over.

This... Super annoying. Also the foot handbrake. Although you get used to it, I have actually pulled off a few times now forgetting it was on because its not so obvious anymore.
 
I made a fairly detailed breakdown in the CC thread somewhere of the decontenting of the SA CC models vs Aus as well. I also briefly checked out the US-spec CC models when I was there in '22.

It is rather shocking.

I think it is because they get scored based on the average emissions of all their vehicles sold, so it's advantageous to them if they are able to sell more lower emission variants. The problem is that the local market demand allows them to sell the low-spec engines here.
