Trade union federation Cosatu has condemned the appointment of a former Democratic Alliance leader to the Gauteng planning commission.

This was "the most reactionary and backward decision ever made in the history of the Gauteng government", Cosatu Gauteng chairman Phutas Tseki said on Wednesday.

He said the appointment of Timothy Nast -- the former mayor of Midvaal -- was made without consulting the Congress of SA Trade Unions.

"We call upon the Gauteng government, and the premier in particular, to reverse this appointment."

The premier should urgently convene a meeting of the alliance in Gauteng to discuss this matter, Tseki said.

Nast was appointed chief director of infrastructure planning in the commission on August 1.

The premier defended her decision on Wednesday, saying: "Mr Nast was appointed on the basis of his vast and valuable experience in building a strong public service; a factor that suits the demands and the focus on infrastructure planning in the province."

What this article doesn't tell you is that COSATU released an earlier statement today in which they condemned Nast's appointment, but they got it wrong.
They thought he was being appointed to a totally different position (see the Press Statement below).
Proof that it has nothing to do with Nast's abilities or the position, but simply just the fact that he is White/DA.

Statement by Mokonyane on the Appointment of Timothy Nast

For immediate release:

STATEMENT BY GAUTENG PREMIER NOMVULA MOKONYANE ON THE APPOINTMENT OF TIMOTHY NAST

The Office of the Premier notes the concerns raised by COSATU on the appointment of Mr. Timothy Nast as alleged "Head of Gauteng Vision 2055".

For the record, COSATU's claims are a misrepresentation of truth since Mr. Timothy Nast, the former Mayor of Midvaal has not been appointed as "Head" of Gauteng 2055 Vision but as Chief Director; Infrastructure Planning - in the Gauteng Planning Commission.

He reports to the Deputy Director General of Development Planning in the Gauteng Planning Commission.

Furthermore, his position is not related to the development of Gauteng 2055 since such is the responsibility of the Head of the Gauteng Planning Commission.

Mr Nast was appointed on the basis of his vast and valuable experience in building a strong public service; a factor that suits the demands and the focus on infrastructure planning in the province.

Whereas it is the prerogative of COSATU to raise consternation on the processes of appointment, the Premier of Gauteng notes that any matter concerning the Alliance is best handled at a political level.

wahahahah stupid COSATU..

Plus, when does the public service have to consult you about appointing people... knobheads.

First red shirts, now red faces. Cosatu got serious issues and then some. What planks, arrogance does this to you.

It just shows how furkd education is in this country when people are unable to distinguish between civil servants vs. politicians and state vs government.

Personally hope Vavi gets fired leading NUMSA to break away from the federation.

So, is anyone going to tell Cosatu they are actually NOT running the country? And they they should stick to screwing over their union workers.
