I also have a gripe against winmodems... hate these like I hate teklom...

Anyways, Samba file sharing just works for me... I've committed a sin this weekend, shared a folder on my one Linux PC and accessing it via another by just using Samba... really, must try NFS or something else...

I'm running Mepis and SuSE 10.0, and it just works. My windoze borked big-time last week, so it got chucked out for a while.

I also do that quite often, as my sister's PC is also on my home network (yes my sister uses Linux ) and I normally don't want to bother setting up a NFS server just for the few time we share files...

That said: NFS is really much more seamless for pure Linux to Linux file sharing as it just mounts like any other block device, so you wouldn't even know you're using a remote filesystem..

As Maskie has yet written, this isn't right. I asked the press spokesman of Munich. He answered me, that Munich is definitly not speeking with Mark Shuttleworth. Munich's Linuxsystem bases generally on Debian. And Debian is related with Ubuntu, that's all. So Limux (Linux of Munich) will become a derivative of Debian, not of Ubuntu.

I searched google for "goobuntu" and only got one result, some japanese blogging site i think.... wtf?

Take note of the update:

Google spokeswoman Sonya Borälv says that "[w]e use Ubuntu internally but have no plans to distribute it outside of the company."

Still very impressive on Mark's part but like many things it's not yet for the man on the street.
