CPU Cooling Issues - Corsair H60

hi guys,

I am having a weird issue with my machine, that I am hoping someone can shed some light on.

I have had the PC running perfectly for years until a week or so ago, when I noticed my fans spinning up suddenly. After investigating I figured out that something was up with my windows install, as Servicehost was using 25% CPU at idle.

I reinstalled Windows, thinking that this would solve the issues. While installing I noticed the fans consistently spinning up, to combat temperatures.

After the reinstall I started up HWMonitor, and was shocked to see my CPU temps reaching 90+ under load. The machine has also intermittently been shutting down to protect the CPU from overheating.

The machine specs are as follows:
i5 2500k @ stock
Corsair H60 Closed Loop water cooler

I have remounted the water block with fresh Artic Silver 5, cleaned the radiator out, and made sure all the fans were operational.

The pump and fan speeds are absolutely in order, with both the BIOS and HWMonitor reporting speeds of ~4000rpm and ~1200rpm respectively.

I am running out of ideas of what to try.

Has anyone had experience with the H60 breaking/stopping cooling, etc?

Is the pump connected to the CPU_Fan port? If yes do you see the fan speed ever go to 0?

The pump is connected to CHA_Fan I think. The fan that is attached to the Rad is connected to the CPU_Fan header. Neither of the fan speeds ever really decrease past the above values,

Ok so could you post a screenshot of HW monitor please.

cool I will give it a shot once I get home (if the machine even boots). The overheating caused it to turn off in the middle of installing ~40+ windows updates, and this completely wrecked the OS. Reinstalled last night, so hopefully its still alive by the time i get back home.
 
My H100's pump failed - a known issue with it.... wouldn't be surprised if H60 shares common components and common flaws...

As a test... is the radiator hot? assuming the pump is working 100%, I'd assume it'd be only a little cooler that the CPU block. IF there's a substantial difference, i'd bet on the pump.

When remounting the CPU block, I made sure to compare the temp of the block vs the temp of the radiator. The block was a lot hotter than the radiator. The radiator was pretty much ice cold, whereas the block was noticeably hot to the touch.

IMO, that sounds like the pump isn't working properly then... if the cpu is @ 90 degrees, the block should be close to that - the radiator shouldn't be cold...

this was my initial suspicion, though I had assumed at the time that it was purely due to the pump not running and the block absorbing heat after I had turned the machine off. Seems that there must be something else at play here.

I am going to swap out the cooler tomorrow, as luckily it is still under warranty (5 year warranty FTW).
