Hi all , i decided to check my cpu temp today for the first time . I checked both hardware monitor and speedfan , they both told me my min temp was 54 , current was 60 and highest was 108 !!! it gets very close to this when put under load aswell . Is this a accurate reading (cause im pretty sure no cpu runs this hot ) or do i need to update my BIOS ? BTW i have more than enough cooling .

Thanks in advance :D

I wouldn't believe those temps. Your CPU would have had a meltdown by now if it was at 108 degrees.

The max temp for the average CPU is around 60-70 degrees - much hotter than that and your system will become so unstable and will eventually crash.

Have a look here and see where your CPU fits in:

I'd upgrade the BIOS and see if things improve.

u r a genius for not saying what cpu and cooling you are using

Ok soz :), im using an intel pentium 4 single core 3.06 (preston) , im using 4 std case fans , stock intel heatsink , and 1 large house hold fan :D .

Is this after you cleaned your rig and re-assembled with any thermal paste between your cpu and cpu cooler? (as per yesterday's post?) If you carry on much longer you will fry your CPU!

If it is recording historic values then it is possible. It will also be the reason why your pc shut itself down yesterday (repeatedly). There is a BIOS setting that will shut down your PC when it hits a temperature as input by yourself - normally factory default to around 65 degrees.

yes that feature is enabled and its set to around 72 degrees , (and thats why my comp was restarting yesterday ) But its not kicking in now so the readings must be false

Don't think you pc would reach that temp without frying. possibly your sensor is faulty.

Are you 100% sure all the locks on the cooler are set correctly? That happened to a friend of mine recently - he bought a great aftermarket cooler for a q6600 and thought it was doing well - when I checked it out it was running at 80c+. Turns out one of the pins was loose on the cooler. It can make a HUGE difference to the heat.

THANKS CEREBUS !! The one lock was SLIGHTLY loose , so i re-applied thermal paste and took extra care when fitting CPU cooler and.... ITS all Perfect now (max temp after COD4 -49 degrees) . Does this mean my CPU was actually running at 108 degrees ??

Might be that it was 108C...ive gotten my e6300,which was doing a 95% overclock up to 85C :P I forgot to switch on my water cooling system and had my pc running! 90% of cpu temp problems are because people didnt put the thermal paste on right. But the cpu that you have is know for temp issues. I got lots of friends with your cpu that run 55C idle on hot days.

My E6750 is currently doing:

Core #0: 31 degrees
Core #1: 34 degrees

:D

I wanna setup my other PC sometime next week and see what that temperature is! :D

Could be, I had an Athlon and I forgot to plug the Fan in.... After a few days I was playing in the BIOS and realized that the CPU was running at 102 Degrees. I thought it was a goner; years later and I still use that machine fine :)

My Q6600 was hitting that because one of the aftermarket coolers pins came loose... Clipped it back on and dropped down to 30 odd again ;)
