CPU / Motherboard running hot

Hmmm sounds like an overheating vga card.

Grim honestly man if you don't have good cooling you better organise because its going to an insanely hot summer this year i think.

One thing i have learned about having a decent gaming/work machine is that when you spend a fortune on parts, you should back that up with a decent case with good cooling options.

I mean i think in the last 3 years i have spent 2k on cases, if i had just bought one for 2k i would still have it :)

Thing is i'm sure that vga card of yours is putting out alot of heat which is causing cpu and mobo to get really hot, what kind of box do you have and does it have any kind of cooling?

Yeah I totally agree with you - If my supplier was still open I would go buy a dam case now! :p

And something I have just thought of, today IMO has been the hottest so far which clearly explains why my system is not a happy camper. Its only going to get hotter and no doubt my machine is going to be toast if I don’t act soon.

What I currently have is a cheapy case, think it was something like R180 bux, you know one of those cheap cases from PC international. Nice looking case, but obviously no winner on the cooling side. I have CPU fan, 1 old exhaust fan that is situated in the back of the case, and then a Zalman fan on my GPU, and that’s it. Not enough i know

Side mounted 80mm, what a joke.

Look that cool about as well your box cept it has a 120mm and 80mm fan, although be better than your cheapie box.

I see PC int have them, price list says that the Smilodon comes with 5 Fans! I wonder if this was a typo?

Coolermaster Ammo 533 :-) May not look the best for some but it's VERY well ventilated....

That is actually not a bad looking case, very interesting look...Not keen on the handle, but otherwise pretty sweet.

Picked up the Raidmax Smilodon Extreme black edition today, installed everything which was a breeze, and Walla! Temps have dropped nicely. Case came with 5 fans!! 1 Front 120mm intake, 1 120mm exhaust 2 80mm fans on the left and one on the right, I am well impressed! Solid build quality, great finish and overall a really awsome case. :D

What are your idle temps now (according to RealTemp/CoreTemp)?

CPU sitting around 45c
Mobo 40c
GPU 53c

Acutally those readings are from speed fan. Real temp reads alot lower: Core temp 37c, distance to TJ Max (whatever that is) 58

My previous motherboard gave similar readings for my quad (+50C) but on my current motherboard my CPU idle temp is between 20C-30C... weird because the cooling is exactly the same and I have a thermal probe which gave me the same temps regardless of the motherboard I was using at the time.

20c - 30c  Thats crazy cool

Yeah weird, this is what my motherboard reads it as including CPUID HW, CPUID HW shows this idle temp for the winbond CPU sensor chip but the TJ MAX is around 54C in both real temp and CPUID HW, real temp reads my CPU core temps as 40C Idle.

My 8800GT is running at 53c idel - is this acceptable? I have that Zalman fan on it, I thought it would run cooler than this.
