CPU / Motherboard running hot

Hi guys,

I just realized I am a bit of a dumbo. Was sifting through the junk on my desk when I came across the sticker I got with my mobo that states that you shouldn’t install the north bridge optional fan unless you have passive or water cooling, else it can overheat your system using active CPU cooler. So anyway I have now removed the fan, and only have the CPU fan running. I just installed PC Probe and as I launched it alarms start going mad, showing the CPU and Mobo are to hot.

CPU: 52c
MB: 46c

Now I have no idea if this is to hot given the specs I have (in my sig) :confused:

Is this running to hot? Do i need to get more cooling in?
 
52 isn't hot....you could thouch it and it won't even hurt.
 
Well yes a north bridge fan actually makes it hotter if you don;t have good cooling in your box, because lets say your vga card and cpu are not well cooled you have all that hot air being sucked on the bridge block which makes it hotter.

Temps don't seem to bad, you don't mention the cpu you have but its a old p4 then those temps are fine.

Thanks doob, makes sense. Its a core 2 duo E8200 2.6.
 
QX told me about real temp, download that and check your cpu score, no doubt that 52 is really hot for an e8200 that is not overclocked.

Go into your bios and check the cpu temp there, what does it?
 
One says temps are fine other says its really hot, so which is it? Hehe....Downloading Real temp now, and will check Bios temps to.
 
Sounds OK to me - perhaps add a case fan ?

Intels can handle heat quite well, upto 70 degrees and I have seen AMDs survive failing fans and rebooting at 93 degrees :-)
 
52 for a stock e8200 is hot, regardless of what anyone says! Reseat the cpu fan and check. Also, new 45nm chips don't read temps too well.. Check it out on google..
 
Thanks guys - putting the north bridge fan back on actually didnt really make a huge difference, but i have taken it off. I have an exhaust fan at the back of my case which seems to working ok. Temp is down to 48c on the CPU.
 
Yea man you have a serious problem, as someone said make sure that you heatsink is seated correctly, take a normal air fan and put it in your box.

You should also look at investing in a good box with good cooling.

Could just be the thrmal monitor on your mobo is screwed, been alot of 45nm problems with them.
 
Yeah I think I need to get a decent case. Any suggestions? Looking at about R700
 
Grim have a look at a case with decent fan, look for something like the aerocool extreme t, aerocool zerodegree, i know the new aerocool boxes are arriving on the 19th of this month with 40cm side fans for about 800 bucks which is good value.

this may be out of your range but i have learnt the hard way buying one expensive box for 3 years is better than 3 cheap boxes in 3 years.

Awsome thanks dude, I will check them out, those 40CM aerocool cases are really nice looking. ;)
 
The weirdest thing just happened after I posted that last post, opened a Mpg and all of a sudden I see weird colors on the screen, the mouse pointer turns into this messy array of colors, then the entire screen goes all fuzzy with a million different colors and the PC freezes. :eek::sick:
 
Hmmm sounds like an overheating vga card.

Grim honestly man if you don't have good cooling you better organise because its going to an insanely hot summer this year i think.

One thing i have learned about having a decent gaming/work machine is that when you spend a fortune on parts, you should back that up with a decent case with good cooling options.

I mean i think in the last 3 years i have spent 2k on cases, if i had just bought one for 2k i would still have it :)

Thing is i'm sure that vga card of yours is putting out alot of heat which is causing cpu and mobo to get really hot, what kind of box do you have and does it have any kind of cooling?
