CPU over temperature error!

this may be a noob question, but do some motherboards come preset with the temperature in fahrenheit? :D LOL this would explain alot

Remember to clean off all the old paste.. preferably with some Isopropyl alcohol.. then watch a few videos on youtube about how best to apply thermal paste.. You should not spread it yourself.. it's best to put a small blob or line (line method) in the center, then clamp the cooler in and let the cooler spread the paste.. no air bubbles this way.

Also, maybe see if there's a bios update for the mobo?

Thanks for the info. Acetone will work as well, correct?

Also, the temp is definitely in Celsius for those of you wondering.

I did some more reading, and people report that the problem is fixed when paste is reapplied (arctic silver). Apparently the stock fan should also be replaced for much better temp. I was thinking about a Hyper 212? (working on a budget.. any suggestions?

when I looked this up I remember reading "definitely NOT acetone" as it's corrosive. I've actually removed paste with a cloth successfully, so rubbing alcohol is not a must.. it's just the best way.

Update! I bought sone new paste, and all is working. CPU is running at about 45 - 49 degrees Celsius on idle.

I definitely want to get a new cooler as I will be doing a lot of video rendering and heavy excel work, which should stress the CPU.

What cooler can you recommend under R500?

Thanks

Sorry, just want to mention one last thing.

All the benchmarks I've done (Passmark and Cinebench) only pick up 2 cores / 4 threads. I see the common solution for this is to re-install windows (I did not build a new PC, so I am still running the Windows that my previous CPU had).

Is this a common problem?

You could try Device Remover, view hidden/detached devices with it, remove (uninstall) the previous CPU and boot up again and see if it works.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it, but the Benchmark software still only picks up 2 cores / 4 threads.

I am going to re-install Windows so hopefully that will fix it :)

I've just had that exact problem with a new Asus motherboard. CPU was at 92 degrees.
PC wouldn't boot for more than a few minutes
IT'S DEFINITELY THE THERMAL PASTE !
I went and got some thermal paste and now the CPU is running at 42 degrees and all is fine.

Cool :)

As for coolers, the Hyper 212 is a good budget choice if you not gonna do hectic overclocking. Another good choice is the Arctic Freezer i30 - looks better than the Hyper, and not much more. It is also quieter.
