CPU-Z is lying to me

that money you spent bought you technology that can do this,.... dynamically change the speed of the cpu according to load.

keep cpuz open, then run superpi/pifast and you will see it change.
 
It's probably SpeedStep kicking in, that is your CPU is underclocking itself when the speed's not needed, resulting in lower temperatures and energy use.

What are you using to monitor your temperatures with? Have a look at CoreTemp.

But you should reach 2.4GHz without a problem. You can always run your RAM at a divider so that it keeps running at it's current speed while your CPU is overclocked :)

You can push this cpu very high with a good motherboard. What speed is your ram set at?

go in your bios and enable EIST and change your power options from "always on" to "home./office" in control panel

I would drop the memory multiplier lower to be honest, your ram would be damaged unless you overvolt it but with ddr 800 running at 1000 i'm sure you will get BSOD eventually.
 
Get realtemp both core temp and speedfan are dodgy.

Also running superpi ain't going to stress out your cpu, get prime95 and runs it much better for checking stability.
 
Turn off you both EIST and cpu enhanced c1e or something.

You cannot damage your hardware by overclocking unless you overvolt the cpu or memory. Pushing your hardware is fine just don't over volt, cpu, memory or north bridge and you'll be fine.
 
I find that the best Program for temps is Coretemp. You can also try everest is you want to see additional temps like your motherboard. I dont really trust speedfan.

For stability get prime95, and leave it running through the night. if ur PC didnt reboot during the night everything should be 100%
Superpi is a wast of time for CPU stressing...

For your ram, try keep it @800mhz, unless you have aftermarket cooling(heasinks + fans)
 
Yeah turn off Speed step and c1e. I had an e2140 at 1.6ghz stock and I could reach 3.2ghz on stock cooling and stock volts. You should be able to reach 2.8ghz easily.

If you really want something to warm up you CPU and check for stability, Try Intel Burn Test and OCCT...

Orthos and prime95 takes way too long to test.I mean ppl bench for 8 hours + ... Ridiculous...
 
Also make sure your PCI-E bus is locked at 100. Otherwise you might run into problems. I know with AMD, you gotta change your HT multiplier as well. Default is 5, had to drop it to 4.

Running an AMD 4600+ X2 at 2883 MHz, default is 2400, on a Gigabyte board (GA-M57SLI-S4). Increased voltage from 1.2v to 1.35v. Dropped RAM divider from 800 to 667. I wanna push my cpu to 3GHz but it becomes unstable. Any other things I could do to achieve this?
 
Werner that intel test won't run on my vista 64 bit install, where as prime95 which is rather old runs perfect. Kuga those amd chips don;t overclock well man, be happy you got so much out of it.
 
Why should I disable EIST and C1E? If they're helping to save power and reduce heat output when the speed isn't needed, then that's fine with me.

So my RAM is running happily at its native 800MHz, my PCI-E frequency is locked at 100MHz and I haven't fiddled with any voltages.
I assume then that its perfectly safe to run it like this permanently.
I was glad to see that my E2160, clocked to 2.7GHz, did a 4M run double as quickly as my old P4!

Indeed? I've been using CoreTemp on a wide range of Core architecture CPUs with very consistent results. :confused:

OK, downloading RealTemp now. Will see what that tells me and let you know later.

And downloading all of those other apps that have been recommended.

The evidence begs to differ, it seems... I still think CoreTemp is best.

I wouldn't be too worried, as long as you keep your CPU under it's rated limit with everyday use there shouldn't be any problems.

If this is your CPU, try keeping it under 73C.

Well i don't know where you stay, i am in jhb right now and its like 20 degrees in my office, now when it gets hot in here it can get to 29-31 degrees, so imagine my cpu was at 65 on a cool day, it will hit 75-80 when it warms up.

Just a thought :)

Benchmark prime95 for 2 hours and see how the heat is after 40 minutes, try this on a normal hot summer though. Well i guess maybe those temp programs have problems with certain cpu's, coretemp and speedfan report my cpu around 15 degrees higher than my mobo, real temp is around the exact same.
