Crack a rar file.

Not viable.

Most releases with passwords on them have very long passwords to them. You have to find the exact file and release name... and check for a password in the .nfo file

To crack a .rar or .zip password you need to use a program such as Elcomsoft archive. The problem with the new rar and zips are that they are very slow to crack. They only allow for about 10-20 password tries a second even on the fastest machines (because of the encryption algorithm). The only viable option would be to split password ranges across different machines and run concurrently. Even in doing this, only a password of upto 6 or 7 characters is viable to crack. After that, it just becomes exponentially huge.

KillerX, not wit Zip - zip is definatly doable with even a P4. quite quick actually...

I have successfully cracked RAR files before, but that is using a pretty straight forward password. If the password is long and complex, forget it.

If you got the file from a torrent site, then the URL is usually the password, or you can try the user(group) who posted the file. Using Brute Force: if you know the exact no of letters/numbers it will take you about 2 weeks instead of 25 years to crack it. If its RAR 3.0 or higher then it will take you 99 years to crack it

I downloaded a file off PBay and it is password protected. Tried the URL and the name of the guy that made it.....no luck.

Check the Pirate Bay comments, everyone else should have the same problem. Have you tried googling the file name? Someone might upload it elsewhere or it might be a repost already.

You can always ask the uploader for the pass on PBay comments.
