To anyone wondering what it's like in London: I arrived here on Guy Fawkes and expected the usual fireworks nonsense, and got it. All night. And every night after that for weeks now, because of Diwali, Chinese New Year, Christmas and New Years. Even when it's pissing down, there's some tard somewhere firing off a rocket.
Because the gunpowder plot actually took place here, the city likes to go big with its controlled celebrations, usually on the Thames outside the houses of parliament. It really is spectacular. Same thing for New Years. There are also dozens of commons in London (basically huge open parks) where properly organised, professional firework displays are done. But do you think that stops everyone and their mom getting their own ****ty little fireworks and setting them off in the heavily built up streets of Greater London? Not a chance. You'd think a city that burnt down twice would have stricter laws: my brother-in-law even went to the police to ask what the laws were because people in his neighbourhood were going ape**** with the fireworks outside of any usual celebration date. They just shrugged their shoulders and said there's nothing they can do. He has two dogs that've had a nightmare of a time in the last two months. He's not intolerant - he understands there are set dates, and he prepares accordingly. But when it's before and after those dates?
This country is too scared to infringe on anyone's rights to do anything, or to seem un-PC. I guess as much as it annoys the crap out of me and ****s with my RIGHT to peace and quiet, stopping them from doing it would infringe on the idiots' RIGHT to enjoy their little festivals in the middle of very compact neighbourhoods.
In Gauteng you can only have fireworks in designated areas. This new year I was in Durban and I had to hide in the middle of the house where I was a guest, with my dogs.
Where are these designated areas in Gauteng? Is this published somewhere ?
I'm in Jhb (paulshof). The retards in and around my area were lighting these fireworks at their homes. The remnants of these fireworks were falling on my roof. Lucky I don't have a thatched roof.
Is a private residence a designated area? In terms of the bylaws, I don't think so.
Having lived in Durban , I know that there are far more fireworks. So for the last 15 years I have chosen to spend New Years in JHB with my pets.
But , I have also noticed that more and more people have been lighting fireworks in Jhb over the last few years.
/lights massive cherry bomb
BOOM
/runs away
Virtual bombs don't hurt anyone.
Friend of mine tried this and it seems to have calmed down one of his dogs a bit:

Looks awkward. Rescue for dogs, at your local vet, drops on some boerie, works great if someone is home with them, guess a relaxant? TBH I needed more than a few drops falling out on an airplane@ 0700 boxing day.
