Crap Speeds

looks liked I've been picked again to be throttled, speed at 80kps with 5.5g left.
looks like I'll have to use the post office to deliver my e-mails on time.lol

Thats like filling your car up with gas and having a spare car in the boot just in case the fuel you put in doesn't work!!

True. While we should allow some down time for maintenance, iBurst has had a lot of screw ups over the past months. I still can't buy a booster, even though I've contacted both MWEB and iBurst about it. With hard capping, when I'm out, I'll be cut off and what then? How reliable a service is that? When you pay R955 per month, which is a lot of money you know, you should expect some reliability. What's the average salary in SA again? R4-5000? A person could probably survive a month on R955 and here I spend it on 15GBs and then no ability to buy the much hyped up cheaper boosters thereafter.

PeterCh have you tried buying a booster pack from the Iburst website?
A co-worker of mine does it all the time.

No signal issues here. Just checked friend's modem on same spot... Speeds are real nice, than on mine.

I think he means "Kilobits" as in 80kbps. Which means he is not throttled.

Madhawk is right kilobits ,80kps
It's gone from 800kps-600kps-300kps-200kps-120kps-80kps and the last three steps has happened in the last month or so.
funny ever since I complained to iburst about it it keeps going down.
the next thing Iburst will do is blame the bad speeds on my gold fish for swimming anti-clockwise and disrupting the signal.

This is not correct. Advanced support went on-site and the feedback was that you were 3m below the paint. There was an open offer that they would install the antennae in an optimal fashion and if the signal did not improve then the call-out charges would be waivered.

Ok this is the first time I've heard that I'm 3m below the paint, what ever that means. The advanced support that came tested with a usb modem, laptop, speedtest.net and said I may get 600kps using the directional antenna.
I get a 90%-94% signal strenght with my omni antenna and can't justify spending R1,150.00 for maybe a better signal.
sorry Ronald at 90% strenght is 80kps normal and if my signal strenght on the directional goes from 50%-60% to 90% will I still only get 80kps?

The coverage map is painted orange and is available here: http://coverage.iburst.co.za/

The map is painted on the assumption of using the signal strength of a USB modem, 0.5m above ground level. However, obstructions will affect the signal strength.

In the above case the signal strength would improve by moving 3m further up from ground level. The current signal costing is -97 at the current location, well outside the acceptable limits of -85.

It is better to work on signal costing, instead of purely using the dashboard signal strength as an indicator.

Why does iBurst even use the signal percentage as an indicator. Its obviously useless. Just give us a dB reading, its so much more useful.
