Crap Speeds

The map is painted on the assumption of using the signal strength of a USB modem, 0.5m above ground level. However, obstructions will affect the signal strength.

In the above case the signal strength would improve by moving 3m further up from ground level. The current signal costing is -97 at the current location, well outside the acceptable limits of -85.

It is better to work on signal costing, instead of purely using the dashboard signal strength as an indicator.

Hi Roland,
How did you come by these stats?
As the guys on site never used my antenna to check signal.
My antenna is on the roof of my house, how can it be 3m below paint line according to your above comment.
From when the signal was good to know there are no new obstructions.
I'm in a fair coverage area according to your coverage map, a co-worker is in a poor area and gets 900kps-1mps
Sorry, but I'm just trying to fathem how is goes from good signal to flat line.

The stats were forwarded from the on-site survey.

If you PM me your contact details I'll have advanced support speak to you directly. They have offered to waiver any charges if their proposed fix does not work.

Feedback is that there was an issue last night with the package provisioning which was subsequently identified and resolved. Effective was that some subscribers, but not all, would have experienced throttled speeds even though their CAP was not depleted. Apologies for the inconvenience.
I think it happened again last night. When I logged into the iburst site my usage stats were all zero.

Last night there was network maintenance on all the fibre and microwave links (Firmware update on Metroethernet)

There are two maintenance windows Thursday morning: 12:00am-03:00am and Sunday morning 12:00am-05:00am. The latter is usually used by Metroethernet as that is the time business clients find acceptable.

How would this affect my usage stats?

I was able to login and check my usage earlier this morning and I shouldn't be capped, but the web just feels really slow. I tried the iburst speed test and I got 304kbps, so I don't think I am capped.
I tried to check my usage again now and got all zeroes. Could my slow speed and the connection to the usage stats server be related?

Anyone else experiencing crap speeds tonight?
Yes, I did. DNS timeouts, web pages stalled during loading.

I went to www.iburst.co.za to see if I was capped, but after logging in saw all my usage stats were zero.

Speed and usage stats back to normal this morning.

If you refresh (F5) the the usage stats should be updated. There is no relationship between usage stats and speeds. Have you checked you MTU?
It seemed like the same fault to me, just wanted to know if anyone else was experiencing the same.
Have I checked my MTU for what?

Slow speeds to content rich web sites are often related to an incorrect MTU setting.
I'm using Windows XP SP3, these are my current values:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NdisWan\Parameters\Protocols\0

PPPProtocolType 0x21 (33)
ProtocolMTU 0x570 (1392)
ProtocolType 0x800 (2048)
TunnelMTU 0x554 (1364)

Just to clarify, I set these values in late November last year to get RDP over VPN working.
