Samsung PS51D450 HD Ready R5,999 - R6,500

Honestly once you're at average home viewing distances of like 2 - 3m+ you will see past the whole Full HD/1080p aspect, because at those distances it is 95% marketing gimmick because you need to be rather close to get the full Full HD experience (32" = 1m, 40" = 1.5m, 50" = 2m). So while resolution isn't as important from far back, picture quality (blacks, colours) and size are more important - this is where plasma wins.

I know as a PC dude you will struggle to see past the 1080p factor, but yeah, at least you can see in person. I just hope you can view from your home viewing distance and not that of the aisle between TVs, as LCDs appear crisper from up close and plasmas appear fuzzy, which is misleading, because LCD/plasma looks identical from further back..

I think you will get the Sony, but let's see and good luck.

So I tried to get the Sony, but was out of stock. Came home with a Samsung 40D550 :D
 
The only 46 inch they had was only with 1 hdmi port.
Viewing distance is 2metres about.
 
So how do I go about calibrating my TV?

I've checked a few links but not finding anything.

In case anyone's forgotten I have a Sumsung 40D550.
 
Find the users' thread on AV Forum and copy the settings (probably "LNxxD550 users thread").

Only proper way is using a calibration tool like Spyder.

Also user settings all depend on the room the TV's in.
 
Sigh. Thanks. I have no problem with how it looks now. Uncharted looks AMAZING.

As for lighting, the room could be considered a cave. No outside light sources at all.
