So before you try opening an account, find a free app to download via iTunes on your device. When you try install the app, the account creation block will come up. enter in all your details and when it asks for payment details, select 'no credit card' or 'none' - I forget the exact wording.

Perhaps your issue is with the address bit... Find a random library or restaurant and use their address and postal code for the state of course! Otherwise it complains :)

Just select "None" under credit card type. Simple as that.

You can only select "None" if you happened to choose a free app and entered the App Creation screen that why. Otherwise the App Store mysteriously doesn't give you that option. ;)

Here is a nice tutorial how to do it, and as people mentioned, you need to do it a certain way to get the "None" option.

I haven't done this in awhile, so can't guarantee it still works. You do need a valid USA address and all that.

If all else fails, i suggest making your country KENYA and not South Africa, you will still be able to use your credit card with that . You will have access to more app store categories, specifically the Games category that is entirely missing in the SA App store. (absurd isn't it, but oh well). The Games category is most likely the most profitable section of the app store for Apple....

Just make sure that the flag at the bottom of the signing up page is the Great USA flag and all will be good.

You guys still committing fraud with illegal American & Kenyan addresses?

I can confirm that I have used this method described above on quite a few occasions with success. However just tried this today for a family member and I get the following message when completing the registration "Please contact iTunes support to complete this transaction".Would be interested to know if anyone else has this problem. This was done from my PC.

You need to use a proxy, because they are detecting foreign ip's.

Just download tunnelbear and use that while creating the account.

Use a random telephone 7 digit telephone number instead of Apple's one as previously provided. Updated - http://iphoneza.co.za/showthread.php?407-How-to-Create-a-US-iTunes-account

If anyone still has issues, send me a PM on iPhoneZA and I will gladly help
