I was actually talking about bowling style, Waqar invented and perfected the in swinging yorker!! He was a tail enders worst nightmare!!

Steyns last 15 matches was against Bangladesh, West Indies, New Zealand... He's new on the scene, he hasnt played against the big boys, but now the big boys will watch out for him...

He's very good and exactly what SA needed. The proteas should keep him at peak and not use him all the time, fast bowlers dont have lengthy carreers, and thats all Steyn is.

IMO Steyn shouldnt try to go all out in this series, especially on this pitch. the last news I heard was that hes gunning for Ahtars 161 kmph record...

I disagree that Steyn is just a fast bowler. Nel is just a fast bowler, Steyn is wilier than that. He's been talking about Pollock and McGrath being his role models, so I think he's a little more concerned with control than absolute pace.

I agree though that he needs to be looked after. I don't think that you can ask a sportsman to represent his country and hold back though.

Only 7 years max for high speed bowling. But he has got some variety.

Steyn should just aim for 150km/h, otherwise he's gonna hurt himself.
He's just talking like a normal fast bowler.

Waqar and Wasim together were incredible to watch, esp with the older ball.:)
 
Must say that when Steyn first came on the scene I thought he was just full of himself and his bowling was just based on speed. However this past summer he has been awesome. He is developing into a clever bowler. A lot of his wickets were due to setting up the batsmen and varying his bowling. His slower ball is particularly good. If he can stay relatively injury free he will get as good as Waqar. The problem with Pakistan teams of the past is that they show very little backbone when the chips are down. Steyn has that SA fighting spirit as well. I am also glad they stuck it out with Amla. He seems to improve with every match. He will turn out to be one of our test greats and the best no 3 we have had for many years.

At this point, I think declare at about 12pm, then have a 10 over shot at the end, perhaps get a wicket or 2 from Steyn
 
Would be nice to put the Indians in to bat this afternoon, but I don't think we should be in a rush to declare. While we've made a good start, we've still got to deal with an Indian team packed with really good batsmen.

And if we have a lot of runs, Steyn can pitch it up and not worry about giving runs away.
would be interesting to see him and Morkel with the old ball.

Harris won't have much pressure, the Indian spinners didn't too too well.
He can only do better.

Putting them in to bat now would be a good idea, seeing that they've been out on the field all day(they must be tired physically and mentally) and it's nearing the end of the day, which would be good if we can grab a quick 2 or 3 wickets. No one wants to bat late in the day with only a few overs left. They will be on their nerves to try and avoid losing early wickets, whichi will increase our chances of getting those wickets.

They'll be even more tired if we biff another 100 runs and they know they can't win.

Am I the only one that thinks this game is heading for a draw?

Oops Boucher just got out, declaration should then come soon. I don't see Harris pilling on the runs. :D
 
we should bat for as long as we can, the pitch will hold up for 3 days "those who know" say, thus give them as little time as possible to use the "good pitch"

Also Mckenzie said that the ball bounced more than he expected so i cant wait to see morkel and steyn bowl :):):)
