Cricket: International Discussion Thread

It's not all doom and gloom. They held WI to 2 draws on home ground. Always tough to win in the Caribbean.
Only lost their way in the last test and I put this down to one problem....
Both their openers are not up to world standard. Even at county level their averages barely register above the low 30's.

Whenever they go out heads drop because batter 3 and 4 know they going to face a new ball. Breaks the team morale.

All well and good calling for Root's head but with whom do you replace him? To me, the English leadership cabinet is looking a bit bare right now. Bairstow? Stokes? These are senior players but none of them scream leadership material.

Right now, anyone. What is clear is that Root isn't working (winning) and whoever else takes over can't do worse.

Surely something has to change?View attachment 1278870
I don't know what's going on with this England team. disappointing to say the least.

Out of their last 20 test matches, only six have been played at home, so a lot of travelling for them.
They have also played good teams, India, NZ, AUS.

I know its no excuse, but this amount of traveling with covid restrictions and bio bubble's must surely take its toll on teams and players.

Well good luck to whoever would take over from Root. It sounds like a bit of a poisoned chalice right now. He made rumblings after the Ashes that he still wanted the responsibility and felt he was the right man to take England forward. Whether that is still the case now, only he will know.

Whether he wants to or not shouldn't really be relevant anymore. The simple fact is the current arrangement is clearly not working and the big bosses need to make big calls. Although, tbh, I generally enjoy watching England lose so also don't mind too much if they just kick the can down the road again

Aus looked like getting 400... but with the fall of Head it's probably 320.

Lasagne is going slowly, guess his more suited to Test matches.

I'm hoping Root gives up the captaincy after SA tour so that we can claim the scalps of three of the fab four

(although I do hope Root goes on to a sick run of form after our tour, because I love him as a batsman)

Dammit, he got away from us!
