Cricket: International Discussion Thread

Who would have thought the Irish could be so successful... So chuffed for them though. :D

Whenever I have a bad day, I always go to youtube and watch my favourite funny cricket video (see below) :crying::(:):D

55.1 Shakib Al Hasan to Powell, FOUR, could this be his 100, yes it is. His second Test hundred. The ball was outside off, but Powell played a premeditated sweep to tickle the ball down to the fine-leg boundary

Great news for the big guy.

At Tea, West Indies are 228/3 in 60 overs. Powell has 115* and Shiv 46*

Credit to Bangladesh for maintainin a good over rate.

Sohag Gazi to Powell, OUT, Gazi gets his third. Over the stumps this time, the ball was a bit on the shorter side and Powell wanted to smash it somewhere around the mid-wicket boundary, the ball turned and probably stayed a little low and hit the middle.

KOA Powell b Sohag Gazi 117 (178b 18x4 1x6) SR: 65.73

Bah! Endf of a good innings. :(

78.4 Nasir Hossain to Chanderpaul, 1 run, gets it this time, dabs it to the offside to get to his 26th Test ton

78.3 Nasir Hossain to Chanderpaul, FOUR, on the pads, Chanderpaul gets a tickle on one and it runs to the boundary. He is on 99 and celebrates prematurely due to a scoreboard error

/applauds the great Shiv

West Indies 318/4 after 80 overs

That ends the first day of this two Test-series, and judging by the way things have gone today, it will be an uphill task for Bangladesh in this series. West Indies haven't looked in any sort of trouble against the spinners on a pitch which hasn't really provided any consistent turn. The bowlers, though, were guilty of giving away too many boundary balls to the batsmen.

The West Indies batsmen have maintained an attacking stance all day, some of which led to their downfall, but as Kieran Powell and Shiv Chanderpaul showed, aggression is not just about hitting big shot. The two rotated the strike all day and put away the bad balls easily. Denesh Ramdin, who joined in the last session also notched up a half-century.

The only positive that Bangladesh can probably take is the tireless performance of the debutant Sohag Gazi, who also picked up three of the four wickets.

So after WI won the toss and elected to bat they are West Indies 361/4 (90.0 ov) at stumps.

Powell scored 117; Shiv is not out on 123* and Ramdin got his fifty in the last over of the day. He is 52*

A good day for the lads for West Indies especially seeing as Gayle, Bravo and Samuels went relatively cheap.

Day 2

West Indies 527/4d
Bangladesh 164/3 (36.0 ov)

Bangladesh trail by 363 runs with 7 wickets remaining in the 1st innings

Shiv got to his double-ton and was not out at the declaration. Ramdin got his ton too. A good day for the West Indies. Lots of work for them to do tomorrow.

Day 3 - 1st Test: Bangladesh v West Indies at Dhaka, Nov 13-17, 2012

West Indies 527/4d
Bangladesh 272/3 (68.0 ov)

Bangladesh trail by 255 runs with 7 wickets remaining in the 1st innings

Gayle was the first person to hit a six off the first ball of a test innings.

Well done :D

Because I know nobody out there would be willing an English demise at the hands of the Indians, I am not going to dwell on it. Except to say that heading into the close of play on day 2, the English have just seen 3 wickets fall in 3 overs

West Indies v Bangladesh

Day 4 - Stumps

West Indies 527/4d & 244/6 (64.5 ov)
Bangladesh 556

West Indies lead by 215 runs with 4 wickets remaining

So West Indies are six down with a lead of 200-odd runs and that has set-up the game nicely for the last day. The way things are going at the moment, looks like Bangladesh will get a 240-250 target, and that should play in WI's favour too as it will keep the home side interested. Although, wickets went down in a heap in the last half hour, the main work was done by the partnership between Kieran Powell and Darren Bravo.

It was looking like the match was heading to a tame draw until a flurry of wickets in the 3rd session. It's all setting itself up to be an interesting day tomorrow. Whatever happens, it was all set up by a sporting declaration by the Windies.

England v India

Day 2 - Stumps

Because I know that there may be some (although not many :p) would like to see an English demise:

India 521/8d . . . Pujara 206*; Sehwag 117; Swann 5/144
England 41/3 (18.0 ov) . . . Ashwin 2/21

England trail by 480 runs with 7 wickets remaining in the 1st innings

Another textbook day for India. They are in complete control of this Test. Firstly Pujara's double hundred meant no let-up in the field, then the spinners pounced during the closing moments of the last session. Only two days into the series but it already looks every bit as hard for England as many thought it would be. The follow-on of 322 looks a long way off.

It's a host of familiar issues and questions for the England batsmen and they'll need to work out some answers pretty quickly. India's spinners will be licking their lips at what awaits them tomorrow.

England are ****ed... see an innings defeat here

Its interesting on two separate occasions the commentators were talking about how England being number 2 shows how the rankings aren't a true reflection of how good the teams are overall. They basically said that England at home or against weak teams are excellent but away against strong teams (especially on the sub-continent), they tend to be really poor. According to them only South Africa and Australia are able to compete with anyone else, anywhere in the world.

Hope the English get white-washed if only to knock their arrogance down a bit.
