6.00 pm India's gained some ground courtesy their top order, and they'll be looking for the remaining batsmen to string together some useful cameos. Catch up with Ajit Agarkar and Stuart MacGill at Match Point. M Vijay began with a composed fifty, Cheteshwar Pujara was just as solid as well. Ajinkya Rahane was less so, but he played some sparkling strokes. But India were led by their new captain Virat Kohli. His century has kept this game in the balance. He shouldn't have fallen with four overs to stumps, but credit should go to Mitchell Johnson who seemed to find some of his venom again after looking a bit out of sorts after he hit Kohli on the helmet.

2.15pm Can't remember the last time I watched an ODI over two days but here we are, utilising the reserve day for the first time in this series. Nothing special, the game simply carries on from where we left off so in 15 minutes, England will come out to chase 240 in 50 overs. What are their chances do we think?

2.20pm Let's reflect on yesterday's play for a moment. Sri Lanka got off to a weak start before rallying well under the guidance of Kumar Sangakkara, an innings Andrew Fernando described as a Kandyan dance. Chris Woakes was England's star, becoming the first England bowler to take more than one six-for in an ODI. Monty Gardner said his form and Chris Jordan are inching England forward as they move towards the World Cup.

The good news is that it's now beautifully sunny, making beautiful Pallekele even more beautiful and we should have no trouble finishing this match by tea time. England have a stiff task ahead of them on a dry wicket that took some turn yesterday and Sri Lanka will come at them with four spinners.

A fine chase from England, they have won by five wickets and controlled things very well indeed. That's the highest chase in an ODI at Pallekele, led superbly by first James Taylor and then Joe Root who's made his third ODI century, a very mature calm innings. He shared two excellent partnerships, first with Taylor to get England out of a little hole at the start of the innings and then with Ravi Bopara who was the perfect foil. There was a hint of a wobble but overall this has been a very solid run chase and England reduce the arrears to 3-2 in the series.

Australia's lead sits at 363, and you can add a few more to that since it will be a fifth day pitch and they seem to have a sharper attack. India though have some classy batsmen who will be backing themselves to last however long they need to. There were a few spicy incidents, tempers were flaring, bowlers were tiring, batsmen were ruling. It was compelling cricket and the end should be just as much, or maybe more so.

This grates me. Match referees should be kicking toosh hard. Two or three match bans as a minimum. Spare no mercy for these critters. It is against the spirit of the game.

Heat were pushed onto the back foot straightaway by Pattinson, who picked up two wickets off the first two balls of the innings. They never really recovered since then. Forrest was the only top-order batsman who looked comfortable against the Renegades bowlers and if Cutting had not scored 30, the total would have been much worse. It is also the lowest total for Heat in the Big Bash. Shakib was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets, he was well supported by Pattinson and Fawad Ahmed.

Rohrer: 'Everyone expects such a small total to be chased down early, but the wicket wasn't easy to bat on. The guys did what we wanted to do with the ball, apart from one over. These two points are most important and we are still alive. We've got a long break now before our next game. Maybe, take some rest for the next few days, get back to training and see what we can do.'

The Renegades have registered their third win of the season and that keeps them alive. A target of 81 was thought to be too small during the innings break, but the Heat bowled great lines to nip out a few early wickets. At 39/5, it looked like the Renegades hit the panic button, but stand-in skipper Rohrer and Beaton steered them home with an unbeaten 42-run partnership. Hopes was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors, while Christian too did well to bag two wickets.
 
@MCD, was enjoying the banter between Ponting and Mark Waugh the other day. Friendly digs and swipes at each other and the side they were rooting for on the day.

I called this after their warm-up against the Prime Minister's XI. Although did score good runs, it wasn't the quality of bowling they're up against today.
