I hear the groundsman bossed up somewhat with the pitch... put down some topping then covered it... which caused it to sweat and soften the cround considerably... did you see the bounce (lack of it) on the pitch!?
Definately didn't help our cricket style...
but then theres the problem... we play a one dimentional game lately...
actually 1.5 considering Jonty now coaches fielding.
 
dont think there was anything wrong with the pitch. There was enuf movement for both teams throughout the game.We jst didnt bowl well. and we batted even worse. I think out of every 6 balls we bowled in the first innings, atleast 2 of em were short. we expected them to jst get out if we scare them. Obviously didnt work..

I hate smith. Y didnt pollock open on a pitch like this?????? That was the daftest decision ever. He was PERFECTLY suited for this pitch. So much movement with the new ball and he is so accurate. Only glen mcgrath would have performed better. Steyn nel and ntini kept bowling short of a length and hoped the batsmen got out. It worked in the odis but then the indians didnt have the experienced players like laxman and ganguly, who basically won them the game with the 50 and 73.

There was plenty movement but the Indians canceled this out by electing to bat, so it was actually a fair start
 
So! We're batting.

Nothing like being one wicket down straight after the toss.

Ah well! Let's hope I'm wrong!!
 
wonder how long they going to allow smith to bat like this before dropping him..

this is getting ridiculous now :/

if mickey arthur is so attached to his love child maybe he should go too... ray jennings would do a far better job anyhow

I know you normally bat when you win the toss but please... you have a top order that's out of form and then on the day your no.1 batsman withdraws..so f.ck the brave cricket and let them bat first. Then at least you know how much you need to pass in your 1st innings. By 'battling' first, we're gonna be bowled out for 150 or so, then they'll bat ONCE only and score a bucket of runs before we have to bat on the last two days again. And with Kumble, we are sure to lose this one too.

I saw the news conference with Mickey Aurthur and he said "Hershey is dropping down to no.6....." basically saying Herschelle knows he is out of form and could be dropped so he is getting this chance to drop lower down the order. Mickey actually smiled when he said that and I thought.."WHAT ABOUT YOUR CAPTAIN"?? Sometimes I wonder if they can't see what we (Joe Public) see???
 
I haven't played cricket since representing the under 12 C's in 1987, but I hereby offer my services as top order batsman.

If I went out there, closed my eyes and swung my arms around in a windmill fashion, I couldn't do any worse than our captain, after all.
 
can someone hack in to the scoreboard and tell smith that he is fired?
 
gotta feel sorry for polly, prince, ab, ntini, and the rest of the boys that play their hearts out, only to be consistently let down by the man thats supposed to be captain and opening batsman, and there to set an example for the rest of the team..


why bother playing when its a celebration when your captain reaches double figures(10)?

Back on topic...nice to see Gibbs come right this innings.

Poor bowlers always needs to come to the rescue of the batting score card and then need to come in again and do the bowling.

Luckily Smith will be there to do some fielding, always catches more balls then his score in the innings.
