Well, we're looking K@K in this game so far I'm afraid to say...so many stupid mistakes. Hope our batting goes better and the rain stays away!

Well this has been very disappointing. Didn't see the England innings so can't comment much about our bowling.

However having chosen a team with a fairly long tail, it was always going to be imperative that the top/middle order built partnerships. With that in mind the rapid fall of the kallis, ab and boucher wickets meant we put ourselves in a difficult position. what's worse is that the kallis and boucher dismissals were pretty soft.

That exposed the lower order far too early and meant we hanging in there from then on. hopefully the morkel brothers will be back soon.

:mad::sick::mad:

England win by 20 runs; Pietersen surely man of the match. I think I'm going to throw up.

btw- Is it only me that can't decide if I want to kiss broad or smack him??

I have to agree with Corrie and Derek. We really did give the game away. Gibbs shot selection for his wicket is also something that they raised which is a good point.

True; but it's the balance which to my mind Gibbs often struggles with; flamboyant, devil may care, or bogged down worrying to much about shot selection.

Very disappointing game. But wont say that we were thrashed or anything.

Some sloppy fielding from us gave them a far better total than they deserved. And then some silly batting in the middle order lost the game for us. Not the best team although I dont think we have many better options with Albie injured.

Looks like KP might just be the saviour of English cricket  He had a very good game. He got 2 lucky breaks in his innings (lbw and run out) but batted very well and his captaincy was also very good. Even bowled well. The fsucker!! Makes me hate the little b!tch even more!!

Will just have to beat them 4-1 now instead of 5-0, but we won the bloody test series, so who cares :p

Yeh, sometimes it takes 1 person to shift an entire team into 5th gear. I admire KP - he's a fantastic cricketer.

Its only the first match, so we'll see how it pans out.

At the end of the day, good cricket from both sides is what its all about.

Yeah, that was disappointing. I'm not too confident about our batting lineup with Boucher in at 6. Our tail is a bit long.

Philander didn't perform again. Every time I see him, I'm expecting something big, but he always seems to be lacking match practice. His dropped catch and the near drop were really poor too.

But anyway, well played to England. Hopefully it'll provide the kick up the ass we need.

You dont watch a lot of cricket then hey? :p

Albie has only scored 236 runs at an avg of 18.15 in 24 games.

I was kidding :p

TBH, I don't think Vernon Philander should be in the ODI team. He is a fantastic player. Trust me, I've watched him many a time and I'm very impressed with his technique and he has done well domestically, but he has not proven himself in the ODI form of the game and I don't think he deserves a spot there. I hope we extend our batting depth. With Albie back it should be a better balanced team. I hope Morne gets back as well. Botha is another one that shouldn't be there IMO. Flames welcome :)

We're missing, Kemp, Hall, Pollock and van der Wath.

Morkel hasn't done too much yet, hopefully he does one day.

Did Kemp retire a while back? I remember reading something to that effect. I wish he didn't and I really don't know why he would. He was doing so well. Van Der Wath we need as well.

Yep, and both playing for ICL, so can't play domestic cricket here either for some stupid reason.
Same with Hall.

SA cric treated most of them badly. So a guy like hall and kemp that are not youngsters anymore needed something more than SA crick was willing to give them.

Yep, even Langeveld left us for those same reasons.
Good player that man.

I haven't looked at stats.... so please correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think JP is ready for ODI at the moment. Don't get me wrong he is talented and still young, perhaps suited to the longer form of the game. He will probably prove me wrong in the next few games which I will welcome. Perhaps Amla may have been a better bet in this situation but like I said I haven't looked at their stats.
For me Philander was exposed big time and that boy... yes he is still very young, is not ready. What happened to letting the guys score a ton of runs domestically before they are chosen? Don't get me wrong guys, I'm a Cobras supporter but there has to be better guys out there? I don't want to derail this thread but what if Philander is keeping another "KP" out of the side? I would like to see merit selections period!

The Morkel brothers will make a difference but remember Collingwood will be back for Eng as well, then perhaps Sidebottom too?? Not sure how serious his injury is.
