Cricket: The Women's Cricket Thread

DC lost their third wipl final in a row. MI won it. Bad luck Marizanne, sadly only one for DC who played properly today especially batting wise.

Besides Kapp and Ismail the other south Africans were either poor or sat on the bench.
 
Protea women contracted for 2025/2026. Not much changes:

SA ANNOUNCE THE PROTEAS WOMEN’S NATIONAL CONTRACTS FOR 2025/26 SEASON

JOHANNESBURG: Cricket South Africa (CSA) today has confirmed the Proteas Women’s contracted squad for the upcoming 2025/26 season.

Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers all-rounder and reigning ICC Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year, Annerie Dercksen, has earned her maiden national contract. The 23-year-old replaces the World Sports Betting Western Province duo of Lara Goodall and Delmi Tucker on the 15-player list.

Anneke Bosch (Fidelity Titans), Tazmin Brits (DP World Lions), Nadine de Klerk (World Sports Betting Western Province), Annerie Dercksen (Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers), Ayanda Hlubi (Hollywoodbets Dolphins), Sinalo Jafta (DP World Lions), Marizanne Kapp (World Sports Betting Western Province), Ayabonga Khaka (DP World Lions), Masabata Klaas (Fidelity Titans), Suné Luus (Fidelity Titans), Eliz-Mari Marx (Fidelity Titans), Nonkululeko Mlaba (Hollywoodbets Dolphins), Tumi Sekhukhune (DP World Lions), Chloé Tryon (DP World Lions) and Laura Wolvaardt (Fidelity Titans).

Led by captain Laura Wolvaardt and head coach Mandla Mashimbyi, the Proteas Women are gearing up for a significant year ahead. Their preparations will be focused on the ultimate prize in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, set to take place in India later this year.

CSA Executive: National Teams and High Performance, Enoch Nkwe commented:

“We are proud to announce the Proteas Women’s contracted squad for the 2025/26 season, a group that embodies the depth, talent, and potential of women’s cricket in South Africa. It’s also a momentous occasion for Annerie Dercksen, whose performances have been impressive as she cemented her spot in the team, earning a well-deserved first national contract.

“The continuity in the squad also recognises the team’s outstanding achievement in reaching a second consecutive World Cup final, highlighting CSA’s commitment to rewarding consistent performance and building on the team’s recent success on the global stage.

“As we prepare for a pivotal year with the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India, this squad offers the right balance of experience and youthful energy. We believe this group is well-equipped to compete at the highest level and continue making the country proud,” Nkwe added.

I just want someone decent who can hold a bat, I have no hope when jafta is forced to come to the crease.

That she is the only top team keeper batting at 9 says it all. It would maybe be ok if she was an exceptional keeper but she isn't that either. Concedes more byes then most batter/keepers.
 
was really impressed with that u/19 keeper in the world cup...they should include her in their squads...and she can bat as well...

Ja, Meso. Still in school though... but so was Sune . Also missing the leggie Naidoo from that squad, and she's only 19. Some nice youngsters coming through, but they need to be picked...

Just a snippet on Sune :
In 2014, her final school year, Luus was so busy playing cricket that she spent only about three months attending school.

So it can be done :)

there's are some real gems in that squad...i hope we nurture that team though...

is there a local t20 league between the franchises? saw a WP t20 pic for the woman...i didn't even know there was such a team...haven't seen any coverage...
