CSA REVEALS PROTEAS WOMEN’S SQUAD FOR WEST INDIES WHITE-BALL TOUR

JOHANNESBURG: Cricket South Africa (CSA) has today announced the Proteas Women squad set to embark on a tour to the West Indies for three One-Day Internationals (ODI) and three T20 Internationals (T20I) from 11 - 23 June. All six matches will be played at the Three Ws Oval in Barbados.

The combined 16-player group sees the return of the experienced Marizanne Kapp following her structured conditioning block, alongside seamers Tumi Sekhukhune and Ayanda Hlubi. All-rounder Miané Smit also earns an opportunity to make her T20I debut after recently making her bow in the ODI format.

Kapp, Sekhukhune and Hlubi replace spinner Seshnie Naidu and left-handed batter Lara Goodall, who were both part of the ODI Tri-Series against hosts Sri Lanka and India.

This tour will enable the Proteas Women to ramp up their preparations for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, with the 50-over encounters against the Windies scheduled for 11, 14 and 17 June.

The shorter format, taking place from 20 - 23 June, presents head coach Mandla Mashimbyi with his maiden T20I series with the team after his appointment in December last year.

The squad will depart on Monday, 02 June from OR Tambo International Airport.

Speaking ahead of the trip to the Caribbean, coach Mashimbyi commented:

“It’s an exciting white-ball tour ahead in the West Indies, and a fantastic opportunity for the players to continue testing their skills. The more cricket we play, the more we learn about our combinations and individual growth as a team.

“I'm very excited to have Marizanne, Sekhukhune and Ayanda (Hlubi) back into the mix. Hopefully, they will come with some new energy, and they'll be motivated to do well for the team.

“Sri Lanka was tough, but we took a lot of positives out of that, and whatever gaps we've picked up, we want to make sure that we brush up on them. I'm looking forward to that, and the players have been working to make sure that they prepare well for the Caribbean tour,” the coach added.

“As we continue building towards the 50-over World Cup, this tour provides a vital platform to further assess our combinations and give players the opportunity to stake their claim. The blend of experience and emerging talent is intentional, ensuring we’re preparing a squad that’s both competitive and adaptable in different conditions.

“The batting unit showed promising signs of growth and confidence during the recent series in Sri Lanka, and we’re encouraged by their continued development. With the addition of fresh pace options, our bowling attack also gives us more tactical flexibility for the challenges the West Indies will present.”

Not sure why you would mention those two in the same sentence :)

Luus seems in reasonable form, although she isn't contributing much to the bowling attack these days

The problem is Meso is still very young and not exactly setting the place on fire when she does get the chance to play.

Sune averages 18 in the last 12 months in ODI cricket. That is not acceptable for one of your top batsmen.

Jafta is averaging 16.

Those numbers are unacceptable for senior members of the side.

So yes they very much deserve to be mentioned together when it comes to ODI cricket with a word cup very close.

Haven't followed those on the outside looking in. Who will they be replaced with ? I was looking at current form btw, which should always be the deciding factor imo. I agree , Sune really slumped last year. i think she was a much better batter when she was bowling as well.

Alexandra candler and Faye Tunnicliffe should both be part of the squad.
