Cricket: The Women's Cricket Thread

Crikey. If we get within 100 runs of this, I'll be impressed. But we can't have some of the batters plodding along at pedestrian strike rates. If you're going to dawdle, then get out. Looking at you here skipper...

But, Cricbuzz has been told, there was unhappiness in management circles about what was seen as Lee's growing unruliness. She allegedly was becoming a troublesome voice in the dressing room, with her behaviour apparently extending to not adhering to the squad's schedule. Sources say she is not the only senior player who is giving management headaches over discipline. "They think they're bigger than the game," one insider said.
hmmmm....

MARIZANNE KAPP AND TUMI SEKHUKHUNE RULED OUT OF ENGLAND T20I SERIES

Thursday, 21 July 2022
CHELMSFORD: Momentum Proteas duo Marizanne Kapp and Tumi Sekhukhune will miss the entire three-match T20 International series (T20I) against England which began today, with Sekhukhune having sustained a recurrent right groin injury while Kapp returns home for family reasons.

The 23-year old Sekhukhune experienced discomfort during the warm-ups ahead of the third and final One-Day International (ODI) against England on Monday and after being assessed by the team’s medical staff, it was agreed she will be sent home to begin her rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, star all-rounder Kapp has requested to travel back home to Gqeberha to be close to her family during this trying time.

Top-order batter Tazmin Brits has been called up to the group, who are currently in the United Kingdom, as a replacement to make up the 15-player squad that will take on the hosts between 21 – 25 July.

A Commonwealth Games squad update will be communicated in due course in collaboration with Team South Africa and the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC).

Aaaaand, our batting let us down again. Only Wolfie showing any fight.

The ladies have really disappointed of late. What is wrong?
Lizelle Lee retired. The opening partnership of Laura and Lee was arguably the best in the game.

Dane van Niekerk's prolonged injury woes has robbed the team of a world class all rounder and some much needed balance. Sune's reluctance to bowl further handicaps the team balance and lack of variation in the bowling attack.

EDIT: I see Kapp has returned home for a family issue? So another stalwart missing. Depth is being tested and found wanting...

We need a new captain. I don't think Luus has scored more that 10 runs in the last matches ODI and T20 combined.

Her BIL is in hospital with severe burns.

Pity about Dane - when I saw her earlier in the year she was really looking forward to England.

Ja, she's really in a bit of a slump.... not batting well, not bowling at all, team struggling. Totally different person in past WC. Not seeing many captain options around, apart from Laura maybe. Not sure whether/how that will affect her current good form. All the senior players just need to come to the party. Khaka seems to be back to her old self
