CRIME!!! DON'T YOU JUST HATE IT?

I love South Africa, but after the 2010 WC its gonna be f u c k e d!

:D Agree 100%!!!! I saw an add on tv last night about the 2010 WC. They ended by asking what "you/we" are doing to promote the WC and SA.. My thought... the best thing we can do is tell people the truth about what to expect here, coz they are not and will not be safe here. You get people like Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear coming to SA with his bodyguards staying in the most exclusive hotels and go back to England saying us as south Africans are lying and making things out to be worse than what it really is. Funny that alot of South Africans has the same mindset, and they can only be that way because they have NEVER been affected by crime.

No. I am not a comedian. I'm just being realistic here. I won't ever emigrate just cause some jerk tried breaking into my house. Whether he managed to do it or not is a moot point. Just because he got in means there is a weak point in my security.

I can imagine what motivates Other people to emigrate, it differs from person to person, but Molokai did not even give it a thought, his mind went straight from Crime to Put Up With It to Emigration! There are loads of other options, but those are the ones he suggested. Suggesting emigration to someone as a knee-jerk reaction is not cool imo.

Bad stuff has happened to me in the past, but Emigration was the last thing that popped up in my mind. In certain cases I see that as running away from the problem. In certain other cases I see it as a valid option. But there need to be some persistent idiots before I even start to think about emigrating. Moving would be my second last option before emigration. But all of this depends on practical things like where there are jobs available etc etc.

So removing my alarm system would be pro-active then? Common now, think for a minute. Why do you have burglar bars? Why do you lock your car? Just to make life more difficult for the idiots out there. But no one is stopping you, remove those burglar bars, leave your car outside unlocked. I could go on...
In any case, we have the technology to help us protect our belongings, so why not use it to our advantage?

Realistic is accepting that SA is in big ****. Denying this fact is being unrealistic. I don’t think I would have emmigratied either if some jerk just broke into my house! Yes this can happen everywhere in the world, just in SA its probably 100% more likely to happen to you. Added to this, the chances of being attacked during a break-in in SA is extremely high. Lets not even go down the road as to what happens in these attacks.

There unfortunately is not any other option. I still stand by my point, accept the crime or emmigrate. Its clear the government has no intention of fixing the problems! The problem is just getting worse. Making it more difficult for the criminals in NOT an answer. From my experience in Neighbourhood watch this just increases the seriousness of the crime. Think about that for a minute.

What technology are you talking about? Alarms, armed response? Beams in your yard? Comon this just adds to your stress. I remember the stress of having an alarm in my house. It use to go off on the odd occasion, when I was at work. When my wife got home maybe she would set it off. ADT would call me, I would panic thinking something may have happened. Enough of all of that “technology” I emigrated and now don’t even lock our front door. Our kids walk down to the park and play and I don’t have to worry about them. We don’t live with alarms, burglar bars, security gates etc… Emmigrating is the best option. Your technology solution is no solution, it just adds to your stress levels!!!!

Do you really think that people emigrate to other countries just 'cos the grass is greener? They emigrate 'cos THERE IS GRASS on the other side. People dont emigrate 'cos they WANT TO - Do you think its an easy task to start a new life from ZERO? No money, no credit rating, no car, no house! Is that the Easy way?
It takes more guts to take control and guarantee your future and be pro-active, than just be a statistic in the random selection game of SA Crime 101. Adding an alarm is not pro-active, its a kneejerk reaction, buying a gun is a kneejerk reaction...these all are plasters on the underlying wounds in SA, and no plaster can stop the bleeding.

You will never understand and I just hope no hardship comes to you or your family... all there is, is Hope

Well said..
