House got broken into today. He had lots of time... took off the window putty, opened the window, broke the burglar bars out, got in, walked around... When we got there the pig was still inside the house. They violate your privacy, break, steal and when you do something about it you are in trouble. If my boyfriend got hold of him and beat/shot or did anything else to him WE would've been in trouble. He got away, now we have to have sleepless nights scared he might come back sometime while he just moves on to the next house and sleeps nicely tonight. When will this ever end? What more do we have to do to try and keep ourselves and our families safe?

Sorry to hear what happened. I know the feeling of not being able to get a decent nights sleep, and getting up at every sound.

I'm in a complex, razor wire, security and eletric fencing. I'm behind a keycard door, a locked door and heavy duty gate. But even I still wake up with the slightest sound. My bedroom window is 3 floors up and the only way into my bedroom is a single door. My 9mm will be the first thing they'll meet when they walk in! ;)

Some burglars wait until you've replaced your goodies (check the bins for boxes etc). Beef up security a little.

Sorry to hear that Candy.

Security.. that just tell's them you have money and insurance, rather get a big dog.
Window putty takes quite a while to take out, he'll have been pulling it out over time, keep an eye on your othe windows for signs of that. Oh and don't expect the cops to come take fingerprints anytime soon, they're totally useless with that.

fark

I find a good few punches too the face suffices. Quite a rush actually.

Sorry to hear.

This happened to us plenty of times before we decided to finally leave. You have 2 options, put up with it. Or emmigrate. Its not going to get better! :( Count your lucky stars you and your partner are OK.

Candy, take head of that comment and take measures against this - the average is 3 ~ 6 weeks after a successful burglary or if they're watching for delivery of the new goods, possibly getting a tip from a domestic worker, they'll be back within a day or two of replacing the goodies.

Crime is not so bad in Cape Town yet in most good areas compared to the rest of the country and mainly Gauteng. Everyone I know there has scary stories to tell while most ppl in Cape Town don't stress so much as long as they have basic security. There are probably 50 hijackings in Joburg for every 1 in Cape Town.
