Primedia & SAPS have hit the nail on its head this time

Illegal firearms are almost always used during violent crimes - murder, robbery,hijacking ......

Worse ,legal firearms are often taken during house robberies and theft, criminals just file the serial number off ,it becomes another untraceable weapon of crime.

We need a (long term) strategy to eradicate and prevent illegal possession .

Since illegal firearm are often without serial numbers

I have an idea, just hope might inspire some practical solutions
how about marking firearms with some form of 'invisible ink ' ? - the serial number can still be identified in the forensic lab ,it might be a viable deterrant.

A simple DIY kit,gun owners can just mark their own firearms.I will be happy to oblige and mark my own firearm.
