until the "last mile" issue is resolved nothing will happen
But don't be fooled, industry experts are ready with a bag full of excuses as to why prices will not come down. The new undersea cables along the east and west coast of Africa are creating considerable excitement in the market.
Wow - really? You don't say... Just imagine if someone with a LG Viewty or Samsung Pixon starts uploading real videos of proper quality. Ohnos !“Apple iPhone users can now take a video with their phone and send it anywhere in the world, and this will place a strain on the networks,” he says.
Remember that bag of excuses I mentioned ?“We will still rely on the existing incumbents to pass on the benefit of reduced costs of international bandwidth.”
I think SA will fall behind faster in the next 3 yrs than it has in the last 10yrs if companies continue their narrow minded profit runs. We are NOT the only country in africa that speaks decent english and up north they are not only bilingual(english + french/spanish) but willing to work for a lot less. So companies involved now can either take a calculated loss now.. or face extinction in the future because business has moved on and centralisation doesn't happen particularly with net. I have little doubt govs on the east coast, where not in conflict and already in a growth boom, are investing in ict.
Telkom has reduced the cost of its local ADSL service
In your dreams! They can't even agree on something as simple as an undersea cable and you think they could agree on a currency which will affect the whole economy?Very relevant. Africa will soon unite, with a single currency. This is a fact. By 2015 we will be in a whole new world with an African Union.
"Oh, yeah...you mean those people down south...living in the dark ages...yeah, we pity them..."
