Crossover Cable?

I need a network cable to connect one of my PCs to my ethernet router, but I don't know if I must get a 'Crossover Network Cable' or a 'Regular Network Cable'.

Can someone please describe what each is used for and which one I should use.
 
Crossover = PC to PC.
You're going PC to Router = Regular Network Cable.
:)

... erm ... my ADSL POTS MODEM is like a PC [it's not a router modem - it's just an ethernet modem], so I use a crossover to connect my PC to my Ethernet ADSL modem. If it was an ADSL router, I'd be using a Regular Network Cable.
 
And a large number of network cards are auto switching these days so "Regular Network Cable" should be fine. . . . as would a cross-over cable.

The thing is, I think I bought a crossover cable for another one of my pcs and connected it to my router. It seems to be working fine.

Does that mean that they can be interchangeable?

Probably means your router or nic is auto switching
 
It depends. Some routers (ie, Cisco) would require a crossover if connecting to a non-auto mdix nic.

Well if it is a multi-port router(built in switch) you should use straight, if it is a single port router with no built in switch then a x-over.
 
It's a 4Port router.

Just an FYI for those who want to know the difference between these two... ;)
 
...or just swap the green and orange pair on one end.
 
2 Standards.

A standard ; Start with green, B standard standards with Orange.

Standard used in SA = B

1. Orange
2. Orange & White
3. Green
4. Blue
5. Blue & White
6. Green & White
7. Brown
8. Brown & White


As discussed in post = just swop orange & green pairs for crossover.
