Which mining calculator shows S9 ROI at 10 months?
S9 profitability has climbed recently, not dropped. That said, it's reasonable to accept profitability will drop.

And why S9 instead of L3+?

How long is a piece of string? 6 month warranty, but it depends on how you look after it I guess...
UPS / voltage / power surge protection... cooling environment, etc.

What is the profitability of a D3? I have access to free electricity so ROI should be faster. I just started getting into the mining game, looking at getting a D3 or building a rig

D3 profitability is one thing, it's the direction it's taken that's the most worrying. Came down from $8k a month to around $200 a month in a matter of months.

I assume its not expected to pick up again? But comparing that to a mining of lets say 6 x RX580s (which will cost around R40k to build) , which will be a better option?

Correct. The guy bought bought a few of those and some S9 and L3 units. He doesnt want to sell any of the L3s.
Im going to see the guy at his office on Monday to see if everything is legit and invoices are correct.
I also think its sketchy for them to be so cheap

I used altcointrader.com, takes a while, they seem to only work during local working hours and can take some time to allocate payments, took nearly a day to get funds across. Just make note of their fees, they tend to add up
