Ok so my dual psu issue was my own stupidly :P

The 2nd psu was too small handle the load over a long period of time, hence it randomly shut down.

Mainly because I forgot to add -10% power in the config for the vega cards, they were maxing out the psu!
 
Were these identical PSU's? I have 2x 750W that I need to put to use on my next rig.

No it was 600 and 750watt.

I thought vega cards does 200watts at default, more like 250 lol

My evga 750watt with 3 cards was pulling 800watts from the wall! It was actually stable that rig, so big up to EVGA!

a plug breaker in a house is rated at 20amps.... so in theory you can have 4800w running through a plug with no problem.

4800 / 240v = 20amps

the only problem comes from the initial inrush current, which is normally safely worked on 3x amp rating. So you can run a high amp device like an 18000btu aircon from a plug point, but.. you will need to change your breaker at the DB board to a D-Curve breaker to supplement the spike, and yes its all legal. If that still trips the breaker, then you have to run a separate wire to the DB board with its own dedicated breaker of say 40amps with X thickness wire.

So your mining rigs running off an 800w PSU, hell yes you can use a few of them plugged into the same plug point in the house with no problem.

Please don't just change the breaker of a plug point on the DB board to anything higher than 20amps, its the wire inside the wall that will melt and catch fire... the breaker must match the wire thickness
 
How time flies but am finally ready to build the miner now.

Just couple of questions: do I only install 1 gpu then install windows then once done connect all GPU’s? Also what must I change in bios and any specific software I need to install?

With the gpu driver, do I just install the normal one from Nvidia website and it will then auto detect all the GPU’s once I install them?

Sorry for all the questions.
 
Does anyone here mine on a 1080? Is it worth it?

First start with 1 gpu.

You will then need change to miner mode in bios once you install the rest. You need install intel chipset driver and intel framework management driver I think it is called.

You can just use nvidia drivers from website. Once you plug rest in they will auto install, it will hang at welcome screen when it is busy doing this sometimes.

The 1080 is good for Equihash algos, though it will mine anything.
AMD's tend to be perform better against cryptonight, Eth, Expanse etc.

The fact is the card is only proves its worth once its mined its own value. If you paid R8000 for a GPU, your value on the GPU begins to show when you hit R8000.00 and above. Until then, you're recovering cost.

That said, obviously mining algorithms the card "likes" will result in faster profits.

I have 24 GPU's for work-related matters but every so often i give them a little mining run, but because they're not mining 24x7 their full value is not realized. Keep in mind you want your GPU to work hard - very hard. Keep it well cooled and it will do whatever u need.

I’m running AMD tho (no stock of the MB’s at time of buying) so what equivalent should I download for AMD?

Yes yes, yet another build... Opinion on the following components please, yes I know there is a shortage and yes I know I'm going to wait, but in the meanwhile let's shoot some holes in my build:

GPU: 5 x Sapphire rX-580 - Nitro+ edition - 8Gb Oc
MOBO: 1 x Biostar TB250-BTC+
Risers: 5 x PCi-E(1x) -> PCi-E(16x) powered
CPU: 1 x Pentium G4400 - dual core , 3.3Ghz
RAM: 1 x Corsair Vengeance 4Gb x 2 kit
PSU: 1 x Coolermaster Vanguard 1200w (or CORSAIR HXI1200 Platinum)
SSD: WD Green 120G SSD
Frame: Mining Frame
Extra's: Power Button and USB 3.0 Adapter Cable for 2.5" SATA SSD/HDD Drives

The Adapter cable is to install Windows Pro on the SSD while I wait for all the other components, can be used as removable storage...

Most people will say 4Gig RAM is enough, but trying to future proof it a bit, thus the reason for the CPU also...

Any suggestions?
